‘Mortal Kombat’: Joe Taslim Wants to Dig into Sub-Zero’s Past

According to a recent interview, Mortal Kombat Star Joe Taslim shared that an exclusive prequel movie for Sub-Zero would be his paramount choice. The discussion took place at his home in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In the talks with The Hollywood Reporter, Taslim said that the tragic happenings of Bi-Han being abducted, his parents getting murdered, and his training in Lin Kuei would all fit perfectly into an eye-catching and breathtaking plot.

“It would be a story about Bi-Han and his training in the Lin Kuei. We would get to see two future Sub-Zeros in one movie, and that would be intriguing”

The actor and the video game fan acknowledged he definitely wants to take on the mantle of Noob Saibot in a possible sequel. Judging by the ending scene of the Mortal Kombat movie, and considering the fact that the ceremonial tournament of Mortal Kombat is yet to be shown, a sequel is likely to happen.

The next transformation of Sub-Zero, Noob Saibot (if the sequel happens) will likely depict his resurrection after being killed by Scorpion. This will be the darkest incarnation of Sub-Zero.

He will now be completely devoid of any human emotions. After this, Bi-Han’s brother, Kuai Liang would presumably become the next Sub-Zero. So a sequel would be quite fascinating.

But a still more interesting idea would be to establish Bi-Han’s past first. As per Taslim, a prequel would be more satisfying because it would explain why they became such ruthless assassins.

Nonetheless, an actor as good as Joe would undoubtedly bring charm to both a potential sequel and a Sub-Zero prequel. Joe Taslim, an Indonesian actor and martial artist, was quite delighted when he was offered the role of Sub-Zero.

It was his destiny to play this character. His son was also pretty impressed after he learnt that his father was given this role.

In the THR conversation, Taslim also described the evolution of his bulky metal costume to a lighter rubber costume for the sake of comfort, and how he wanted to discard the label of “action actor” through his future movies. The long-awaited online game reboot movie of Mortal Kombat, directed by Simon McQuoid, was well received by audiences and critics alike. According to Joe and viewers, the prolonged prologue was arguably the most bewitching to watch.

The movie centered its motion on Cole Young and presented new iterations of customary fighters such as Sonya Blade, Jackson, Kano, and Scorpion. After the Earthrealm warriors stop the vicious Outworld warriors before the titular tournament, Cole Young heads for Hollywood to get a new fighter to help them.

As he gradually moves out of the frame, a movie poster for Johnny Cage, a beloved fan favorite of the franchise, can be spotted. Thus, we can finally vouch for the potential presence of Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2.
