‘Supergirl’ Season 6 Showrunners Have No Plans for Mon-El’s Return

When asked if Mon-El would be returning in Supergirl season 6, the series’ showrunners state there are no plans yet for Mon-El returning in the CW series’ final season.

Fans have been curious about Mon-El’s next appearance ever since he left the show during season 3. He is arguably the most suitable love interest Kara has had in the series to date. With season 6 being the final run of the series, there is more hope than ever that Mon-El will be back.

Mon-El first appeared as a refugee from the planet Daxam in season 2. The romance between him and Supergirl was more than palpable. But soon his folks arrive on Earth and are not happy with Supergirl’s influence on Mon-El. The last season saw Lena Luthor implanting Earth’s atmosphere with a substance that would poison Daxamites and Mon-El was forced to leave Earth and Kara behind.

Though he finally returned in season 3, it was apparent that Mon-El was not staying as the permanent love-interest on the show, particularly after revealing that he was a founding member of the Legion of Superheroes in the future.

With the showrunners already teasing the return of characters for the final season, it would only make sense to include Mon-El. During a recent interview with TV Line showrunner Jessica Queller,

“We have plans for familiar faces to appear in the season finale hopefully. We’re hoping that works out, and we’ll have a very emotional full circle with some of our favorites.”

Oddly enough, that same interview with Queller and co-showrunner Robert Rovner has them singing a different tune about Mon-El in particular,

“At this point, we don’t have plans for Mon-El to return, but if it takes us there…We love Chris. He’s a part of the Supergirl family, but at the moment, we don’t have plans for him to return.”

Could Mon-El’s return be significant to Supergirl‘s end game? What if the producers intend to have Kara end up with Mon-El, but are saving it for the end of season 6? Most importantly, what if the entire reason for Kara to vanish is that she leaves with Mon-El and heads into the future and joins the Legion of Superheroes?

Supergirl will air its first six episodes this week and will not be airing the rest of the episodes until the summer. So there is a good chance that the showrunners might not have finished the season at the time of the interview and are still figuring out which characters will return.
