Forbes Is Right — ‘Superman and Lois’ Needs To Move To HBO Max

In the wake of the crumbling Arrowverse, Forbes believes that Superman & Lois needs to “flee” from the CW to the much more liberating, creative refuge of HBO Max. I couldn’t agree more!

I’d like to start off by saying that the Arrowverse enthralled me plenty, be it because some of my faves were finally being sketched out for an extensive series or the lack of finding any other superhero TV show interesting. Alas, the thrill slowly but steadily snowballed into repetitive.

As Forbes points out, CW’s format suffers from the bane of being painfully long.

When you have 24 episodes for a single season and the ambition of getting renewed for a new one, there’s only so much you can do from letting the story and drama get dragged out.

And yet, even Superman & Lois with its trimmed down 15-episode run bumps into the same fate.

While the pandemic can be blamed for certain weeks of the show being off air, taking rest weeks and hiatus periods are signature CW show moves.

The age of streaming services has made us impatient, and gone are the days of willfully waiting every week, one specific day for your favorite show to air. CW needs to acknowledge that the dynamics of TV show consumption has changed and while some shows will continue thriving within the traditional format, others like Superman & Louis may be end up worse for it.

Why this feels like a point to nitpick at, is because other than its format and scheduling, Superman & Lois makes for a successful show. But it’s easy to forget how good a show is, if its constantly taking breaks, feels incomplete or worse, stretched out of proportion.

HBO has proven to be a viable platform, especially given the rise of other DC shows like Doom Patrol and Titans. The platform has a crisp format, good scheduling and growing viewership. Superman & Lois is already set to hit the streamer post its television airing. Why not make a permanent home there?
