A New Villain Arrives in Superman & Lois Season 3 Premiere

It feels fantastic to be finally back in Smallville!

Ever since Superman and Lois debuted in 2021, the fans have gotten the perfect blend of small-town drama and superhero action.

The show contrasts the everyday struggles of rural life with the epic battles of an alien from Krypton in a way that’s appealing to people of all ages.

This week’s premiere sets the stage for the entire season soothingly! Everyone in town comes together to party at the Kents’ farm for Jonathan and Jordan’s birthday bash.

The fans were a bit worried about the actor switch for Jonathan, but the new guy fits right in without missing a beat, at least from what we have seen in the pilot!

Fans of Superman & Lois consistently voiced their disappointment with the lack of interaction between the titular couple during the show’s second season.

However, this has been remedied greatly, with viewers finally witnessing the iconic duo working together and experiencing glimpses of their private moments as a couple.

The chemistry between Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch is real and palpable on-screen, and it seems like they are deeply in love. This dynamic is a driving force behind the show, which aims to bring joy and hope to its viewers.

While the premiere of the latest season reveals that the Kents would not have another super baby, the potential pregnancy storyline serves as a reminder of the strong bond between Lois and Clark and their relationships with friends like Lana and Chrissy.

These relationships will undoubtedly play a significant role in the season’s progression.

What would make a Superman & Lois season even more exciting? Yes, the addition of some herculean villains, of course! In this case, we have not just one but several of them.

Onomatopoeia

The first on the list is Onomatopoeia, a character from DC Comics who is recognized by his black hood.

Interestingly, Onomatopoeia was almost introduced in the first season of Arrow on The CW. However, adapting the character for the screen was much more challenging than anticipated, and the idea was put on hold.

Another mighty supervillain is Bruno Mannheim, played by Chad L. Coleman. The crime boss challenges Superman to rethink his definition of saving people and poses a massive threat to his family.

Mannheim plays a significant role throughout the season and is chosen as the primary antagonist for his ability to pose a formidable challenge to Superman and Lois.

Additionally, Mannheim is a complex character with a distinct perspective which can’t be easily disregarded. Despite his criminal actions, there may be underlying reasons or circumstances that led him down this path.

The role requires an exceptional actor, and Chad was the ideal candidate when they pitched the idea.

Let’s end the recap with the most surprising and possibly divisive twist: Chrissy and Kyle’s hookup after the party. It’s weird how something that seems wrong can also feel right, right?

Fletcher reminds us that living in a small town can lead to unexpected and fruitful connections. Despite their unlikely pairing, Chrissy and Kyle’s chemistry is captivating. They may not fit the usual mold, but they have a genuine connection.

Oh, and by the way, in case you were curious why Sam takes Natalie to watch a movie about a notorious serial killer called “The Carver,” it was a deliberate reference to Dylan Walsh’s previous work on the TV series Nip/Tuck.

According to Fletcher, the marquee of the Sequoia has become a place for them to hide little surprises for viewers, and they often display the titles of movies just for fun!
