Superman & Lois season 2 got off to a great start in January 2022. After the epic events of season 1, fans were wondering if the writers could surpass such quality. But it is safe to say that, so far, the writing looks promising. The narrative is gripping, the visuals and the CGI are top-notch for a TV show, and fans are excited about how the show will unfold.
With so many new faces in the show, fans have wondered since season 1 if the show is part of the Arrowverse? There have been multiple questions such as –
- How do Superman and Lois have two teenage sons?
- Is the show disconnected from the Arrowverse?
- How does Superman & Lois fit into the Arrowverse timeline?
Well, don’t worry, because I have a definite answer to all these questions.
Superman & Lois is part of the Arrowverse and is set on Earth-Prime. After the Crisis on Infinite Earths five-part crossover. Earth 1, Earth 38, and Jefferson’s Earth merged into Earth-Prime, thus ensuring that the multiverse isn’t destroyed.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was one of the most emotional crossovers since it saw the demise of Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow. He was the one who started it all with the show Arrow and, to protect the multiverse and its various Earths, sacrificed himself.
The events of Superman & Lois take place in this post-crisis universe where they stay on Earth-Prime with their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan. Prior to the crisis, the couple lived on Earth-38 and had only one son, Jonathan. However, after the events, they are now a family of four.
The connection of Superman & Lois with the Arrowverse is subtle since there have been very few guest appearances from characters of the other shows. However, it is not disconnected. There are tiny references to the events of the crisis and how life used to be before. We see this in conversations between Lois and Jonathan.
Besides the above reference, we also have two characters, Sam Lane and Morgan Edge from the Arrowverse, who appear in the show. Although these characters first appeared in Supergirl, they are now portrayed by new cast members, which could be due to the merging of the three Earths.
All of these clues tell us that Superman & Lois is definitely part of the Arrowverse, and the show’s events take place in the post-crisis universe/multiverse. While it would have been great to see guest characters on the show, I don’t think it would be as exciting as it used to be.
After watching so many annual crossovers within the Arrowverse, for once it is refreshing to have a world, that has its own story arc and narrative which may not be closely tied with the rest of the Arrowverse shows.
