Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 E7: Does Hong-joo Escape The Demon Realm?

Episode 6 of Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 ended with Lee Yeon and Cheon Moo-young entering the demon realm in search of Hong-joo. Episode 7 then starts with the two of them inside this world, which is described by Hyunuiong as a dangerous border between life and death.

At first, the realm seems odd because Yeon and Moo-young keep changing locations without their knowledge and almost have their throats slit by swords. But they soon realize that they’re actually on a set for a TV series called Jangsan Tiger’s Bride.

It turns out that the set is actually a fake one created by Jangsan Tiger to manipulate Yeon and Moo-young and make their quest harder.

Jangsan Tiger keeps putting Yeon and Moo-young on different sets and in different situations where they have to fight their way through to get closer to Hong-joo. Jangsan even brings a look-alike of Moo-young’s dead brother to play with Moo-young’s feelings.

Episode 7 of Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 ends with Yeon and Moo-young eventually finding Hong-joo. Together, they free Hong-joo from the control of Jangsan Tiger after which the three of them end Jangsan once and for all.

Read on to find out everything else that went down in the episode.

1. Yeon and Moo-young rescue Hong-joo (and Eun-ho)

Jangsan Tiger is an impersonator who can mimic voices so well that he can manipulate his victims into doing whatever he wants them to do. This demon takes Hong-joo so that he can make her his bride and use her to kill Yeon and Moo-young.

In the demon realm, Jangsan Tiger makes Yeon and Moo-young fight multiple people until he forces them to battle with each other. But Yeon and Moo-young avoid a brutal fight and outsmart Jangsan Tiger by following the trail of rice puffs that Hong-joo left for them.

On arriving at their destination, they are met with an assassination version of Hong-joo who has unfortunately already fallen victim to Jangsan Tiger by becoming his bride.

Yeon and Moo-young first try talking Hong-joo out of her trance but when that doesn’t work, Yeon suggests that they just fight her together because there’s no other way out. Moo-young, however, is unable to get himself to even lay a hand on Hong-joo.

Moo-young takes out his fragment of the jade comb and puts it in Hong-joo’s palm. This slowly brings back her consciousness. When Moo-young and Yeon use more ways to remind her of their childhood, Hong-joo finally escapes Jangsan Tiger’s control.

The trio defeating Jangsan Tiger

Hong-joo then throws her sword at Jangsan Tiger, and Yeon and Moo-young follow by doing the same thing. By working together, the trio is able to kill Jangsan Tiger.

Hong-joo then finds Eun-ho and with the help of the string still attached to Yeon’s finger, they all run back to the door that brought them there.

2. Moo-young goes back to his old ways

While everyone is running towards the exit, Moo-young quietly turns around and runs back to where they killed Jangsan Tiger. He then stabs Jangsan with his duduri and this helps him get a crystal-like object.

Hong-joo and Eun-ho make it back to their world, but the door closes before Yeon can go through because he starts searching for Moo-young. Yeon then finds Moo-young with the crystal in his hand and the latter explains how the crystal would save his degenerating body.

Moo-young consumes the crystal, and it restores his body to its immortal form. Moo-young then suddenly changes his attitude towards Yeon and makes it clear that he’s going to keep coming after Yeon for murdering his brother.

Moo-young in episode 7

Earlier in the episode, we find out that Yeon killed Moo-young’s brother because he was trying to kill Moo-young, and Yeon wanted to honor his promise of protecting his friend.

However, Moo-young began resenting Yeon for this because Yeon didn’t allow him to figure out why his brother suddenly wanted to kill him. Moo-young still believes that his brother might have had a good reason for what he did.

Although Moo-young and Yeon were (sort of) getting along for the last couple of episodes, it was only short-lived.

Moo-young reveals to Yeon that he was the reason why Jangsan Tiger took Hong-joo and that he is the one behind the red-white mask. Both these facts anger Yeon, and it seems like he isn’t ready to let go of their rivalry either.

Both Moo-young and Yeon are set in their ways and not even Hong-joo can convince them to settle their differences now.

3. Moo-young tells Rang about his future

Just before Yeon and Moo-young can start fighting each other again, Rang enters the demon realm with the help of the stray cat from the previous episode. He immediately breaks up the fight and stands in front of his brother to defend him.

But before the fight gets too messy, Moo-young pulls Rang aside to tell him a story. The scene abruptly cuts, and we see Rang and Yeon walking back to the door after Moo-young lets them go without a fight.

Lee Rang and Yeon

At the end of the episode, we find out what the story was. Moo-young tells Rang that he dies in the year 2020 after he sacrifices himself for Yeon. He puts the thought in Rang’s head that he’s going to be used by his brother his whole life, even at the time of his death.

This makes Rang rethink his brother’s intentions. Just as Rang was starting to trust Yeon, Moo-young successfully managed to cause tension between the two brothers again.

4. Rang and Yeo-hee finally kiss

While Yeon and Moo-young are stuck in the demon realm, Rang is waiting by the door with the other end of the string attached to Yeon’s finger. However, he isn’t aware that Jangsan Tiger can use him to cross the barrier and get into this world.

Jangsan Tiger mimics Shin-joo’s voice on the phone and tells Rang to put his blood on the string. Unfortunately for Rang, this makes things worse because it allows Jangsan Tiger to send his army of assassins. All Jangsan needs now to cross is for Rang to let go of the string.

Rang fights with all his might, even after being cut by swords and knives multiple times. A few minutes later, Yeo-hee arrives at the same place to bring Rang a snack.

Rang and Yeo-hee

When Yeo-hee realises that Rang is in danger, she rushes into the room to his rescue. She covers his ears and uses her screaming powers to eliminate every single assassin in the room.

Rang feels like he is indebted to Yeo-hee for saving his life twice to which she responds by saying there is way he could repay her all at once. She then leans in to kiss Rang and although Rang hesitates at first, he finally kisses her back.

The moment we were all waiting for finally arrived! Rang and Yeo-hee make a really sweet couple and I’m sure everyone’s excited to see how their relationship blossoms from here.

5. Ryuhei Kato’s plans for the army

Ryuhei Kato’s plan to do experiments on demons and recruit them in the army is still in execution phase and he’s not going to give up until he’s got the strongest demons under his control.

At the end of episode 7, Ryuhei Kato tells Akira Saito to call the Shinigami Mercenaries to secure the Joseon demons. But the way Akira Saito talks of these mercenaries tells us that they’re extremely dangerous and ruthless and not to be messed with.

Yeon still has so many challenges ahead of him before he can even think about returning to the present. Watch how this story unfolds in the next episode of Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 which will be out on May 28, 2023.
