Ted Lasso is officially a show that can run with the big leagues now. The latest episode was super charged with intense emotions throughout 45 minutes – marking it as the longest episode so far.
The entire episode kept fans on the edge of their seats and we now know why they needed those 45 minutes.
Away from the always-inspirational and funny angle, the episode was filled to the brim with thrilling ups and downs. Well, mostly downs, as you’ll soon figure.
Aptly titled ‘Man City,’ episode 8 of Ted Lasso showed several male lead characters taking giant leaps in their story arcs.
It starts with AFC Richmond brutally losing 5-0 to Manchester City, which leads to papa Tartt losing his cool and belittling Jamie in the locker room in front of the entire team.
Jamie tries his best to maintain his posture as the drunk Tartt provokes him by inching closer.
But there’s only so much a son can take. We’ve seen Jamie being humiliated since season 1, but it had been like this his entire life. In the latest episode, Jamie finally gives in and lands a solid punch on his father’s face!
Soon after the father-son drama unfolded, rivals (turned friends?) Roy and Jamie were locked in an emotional hug with the latter letting his pent-up frustration go and breaking into a cry.
All this while, Ted stood in the background, being a spectator to the family commotion. This ends up triggering a nerve, as he calls Sharon and finally lets her (and the viewers) in.

Ted has only a couple of times mentioned his father. This revelation comes after, first, the heartbreaking young and old Tartt moment and Sharon opening up to him.
The team psychologist was hit by a car and landed up in hospital, at the very start of the episode. After several voice messages, she shed her inhibitions and opened up to Ted, making the head coach reciprocate.
While this couple inched a bit closer to each other, things are still unclear over the “unconventional” couple, Sam and Rebecca.
The duo finally meets over dinner and shares a kiss at the end of the night. However, Rebecca consistently said that it couldn’t happen again. Many strong forces come between her and the 21-year-old star player. But Sam is consistent with his pursuit.
Throughout Ted Lasso, the show, there has been a recurring father-son relationship theme.
Ted’s availability of being everyone’s shoulder to cry on is now revealed not because he has the strength to, but because he wants to stop thinking about his past at all cost, even if it means giving up all his emotional energy to others.
Just because someone’s a happy-go-lucky guy does not mean they don’t have their demons to fight.
Ted Lasso’s arc is so incredibly detailed and close to ground reality that only a few would’ve been able to guess why he behaves the way he does. But we finally have a better understanding in Episode 8.
Now with Ted’s leap of faith of opening up to therapy, Jamie standing up for himself with Roy by his side, and Sam and Rebecca’s unclear (but romantic) storyline, episode 8 has left viewers with multiple questions – and almost no answers.
Episode 8 serves as the peak moment in several characters’ lives, overflowing with emotions. It’s as if every moment from Season 1 was made entirely for this one episode.
We’ll have to wait and watch if the emotions skyrocket in Episode 9 too or do they boil down, offering a calm, peaceful end.
