Ted Lasso S3 E7: Total Football, Love-Bombing, English Politics & More

In this week’s episode of Ted Lasso season 3, the titular character, played by Jason Sudeikis, brought a new plan for Richmond to get their old moxie back. And though the mid-league strategy change didn’t bring the result the coaches hoped for, it did end with Jamie learning where his importance lies.

Though Roy and Beard were less enthusiastic about springing a new strategy on the team in the middle of a series, Ted’s optimism about the four-step plan was unmatched. And while their match against Arsenal wasn’t going too well in the first half, Richmond turned the tide with Jamie’s sacrifice in the second half –though they didn’t win.

In episode 7, The Strings that Bind Us, the characters don’t only learn of chains that are barring them from rising to their full potential but also of new red strings of fate and old knotted relationships. Too poetic? Okay, I’ll drop the metaphor.

Keeley and Rebecca

Jack and Keeley getting together might not have been a shocker, but the former’s love bombs are surely surprising. With a diamond ring, a first-edition Jane Austen, and an office full of daisies, Jack’s big gestures are endearing but also remind us of someone a bit more toxic. Rebecca also notes the similarities between Keeley’s new love interest and her ex-husband and worries for her. Keeley takes her concern into account and asks Jack to cool down with the extravagant gifts.

Speaking of new loves, after Jade made amends with Bad Nate, Good Nate returned to the screen in this episode. Wondering about how one can discern if someone likes them and asking how your parents got together is classic lovestruck behavior, and Nate checks all the boxes.

He even prepares a big gesture in a smaller package with a homemade diorama to ask the Taste of Athens waitress out, which would have been cute if the car didn’t run it over. Nevertheless, Jade accepted his offer to go out with him, and though Nate feared he’d been stood up again, the new couple had a good time.

Is this the showrunners’ hint that Nate will revert to being his old self, or is this just the calm before the storm that we know as Rupert?

Ted Lasso

Sam’s eagerness for his father’s arrival in England is spoiled when he gets into a Twitter battle with the UK Home Secretary. After he calls Barot a world-class bigot, the politician sends over goons to trash Sam’s restaurant. Mr. Obisanya arrives, and Sam rushes to him for advice, and his father tells him, “Don’t fight back; fight forward.”

Sam’s teammates come to the restaurant to help clean the mess, where we learn why Sam named his place Ola – it was after his father! If I wasn’t tearing up then over this sweet father-son bond, I definitely was in the final scene as they cooked together in the kitchen.

Ted Lasso will return with new episodes on Apple TV+ every Wednesday, so keep watching for these recent changes to take hold in further episodes. Also, stay tuned to Cine Dope for the latest news on Ted Lasson and more!
