Ted Lasso Season 2 Kicks-Off With A Promise For An Engaging Drama

Ted Lasso dropped its first episode of season 2 last week, and for the uninitiated, I just want to say watch season 1! It’s a warm, funny, and feel-good story about an American Football Rugby coach who knows nothing about soccer but is hired by a British football club to coach them.

The show’s first season was instantly loved and adored by everyone. The forever-optimistic coach Lasso, his all-American humor, and of course, the bittersweet yet hopeful moments of the life of the different characters surround him had us all right from the beginning.

So, is season 2 as good as the first one? Spoiler Alert: You’ve got to scroll to find out.

1. Quick Review

Ted Lasso

Air Date: August 14, 2020 Status: Upcoming Season 3 Studio: Ruby’s Tuna Inc. , Doozer Universal Television, Warner Bros. Television Studios No. of Seasons: 2 No. of Episodes: 22

Ted Lasso season 2 has a different tonality and pacing than the all-happy season 1, and that’s something to look out for.

Right from the first scene we are dropped into a conflict. In fact, now that we know all the characters on a deeper level, and understand their complexities, season 2 wastes no time and dives right into them!

And I guess that’s what’s excites me. Because the deeper you know the people, the deeper will be their conflict and I’m quite pumped to see how the show goes about solving that.

2. Is It Worth Watching?

Yes! Ted Lasso season 2 is a must-watch for fans of the show. It promises an engaging drama as the various characters have started facing their conflicts – even Lasso (the coach) is a bit unnerved and that’s a first. Can’t wait to find out how it all unfolds.

Oh don’t worry I’m not giving any spoilers, but you can say things are getting uncomfortable in the Richmond stadium. No, I’m not telling anything from the show, but you know Sam is… Ok, I’ll stop but you gotta watch the show. In case you’re wondering what the plot is (I promise. No spoilers there.) check it out below.

3. Plot

Ted Lasso season 2 has Coach Lasso gearing up his team for their first win. But this time, it’s a little different. They’ve got 8 draws in a row and remain undefeated. The different characters are going through their own challenges and this season seems to be focusing on them in more profound ways than just humor.

Season 1 was probably the epitome of a nice-guy show! There were conflicts but they were easily resolved, there were fights but people made up quickly too, and overall, it was definitely a won for Richmond club because even if they were disqualified, they had found someone who can bring them together.

I think season 2’s tonality a little more serious than funny and honestly, I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. It’s called growth of the characters and slowly reaching out to their deeper fears and insecurities, exploring and even solving them. I guess that is good storytelling. Correction. That’s excellent storytelling.

4. Cast And Characters

The show has brought back pretty much all the characters save one or two and I think they’re as good as anyone can be. Jason Sudekis as usual is impeccable in every frame. His off-beat sense of humor, optimism, awkwardness and of course his command over the team is a treat.

Other cast members such as Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Bret Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, Nick Mohammed, Toheeb Jimoh and Sarah Niles are also equally good. I know that’s a long list of names, but credit where it’s due, because Ted Lasso wouldn’t be Ted Lasso without all these fabulously brilliant performances!

Moreover, Ted Lasso is a character-driven show and each of these characters have their own arc that’s driving this story. It’s these conflicts that make this show an engaging watch and I can’t wait for episode 3, ‘cause let’s just say not everyone on the field is comfortable.

5. Final Thoughts And Grade

At this point, I’m probably redundant because all my thoughts are already up there. So fine, I’ll repeat it to give you that final push to catch this show.

Ted Lasso is stunning with brilliantly written characters who will immerse you in their world and the story of AFC Richmond! So, drop everything and watch it now!
