The much-awaited face-off between West Ham United & AFC Richmond finally happened! West Ham wins with a score of 4-1, all due to Richmond’s aggressive play. Nate and Ted’s first faceoff after the former’s promotion went differently than I thought since Nate was obviously conflicted over how to go head-to-head with his former boss and mentor.
But the episode seems like a personal win for Ted Lasso at the end. Even though Flo shot him down, it’s the first time that he’s shown anger to his wife, a huge achievement for the coach who always keeps a happy mask. But speaking of AFC Richmond, more trouble is coming their way, so let’s get right into it.
1. Episode 5 Synopsis/Speculation
With their season in a tailspin, Richmond tries to right the ship against mighty Manchester City. Off the pitch, everyone faces their own setbacks.
Rebecca finding out Rupert’s secret gives her an ace up her sleeve, since after West Ham’s win over Richmond, she needed something to throw him off while also discrediting his ownership of the team. But how will she use it?
She has two options – either blackmail him or make it public. But knowing Rebecca, she will make the tactical move after weighing her options, so we might not see any action on that field in the next episode.
But in the next episode, the showrunners have planned a heavy episode for AFC Richmond’s players, on and off the pitch. Trent has the means to out Colin, and Jamie’s new training is not going as smoothly as he thought, and we don’t know what other trouble will come in the way of the others.
Ted may have taken a step towards finally letting his real emotions show, and the surprising move seems to have struck a chord in Rebecca’s heart. Could the split-up family have another chance?
Nate’s battling his two sides – one where he wants to let go of his hatred of Ted and the other where he needs to keep on the facade to keep himself in Rupert’s good graces. Which road will he end up choosing in Ted Lasso?

5. Episode 4 Recap
After spending the night together, Ted asks Flo out on a date, but she politely lets him down, stating they’re both too much of a mess to start something serious. Nate is preparing for his team’s match against Ted’s, but his unease over his hatred for his former boss is prominent.
Roy and Beard uncover a security tape proving that Nate tore up the Believe sign in season 3 and they planned to show it to the team to rile them up. Even though Ted asks them not to, they go against his decision, leading the team to play too aggressively and resulting in West Ham United’s win.
Seeing Ted’s excited greeting, Nate wants to apologize for his attitude and behavior toward his former mentor. But upon seeing Rupert, desperate for West Ham’s owner’s approval, the kit-boy-turned-coach walks away without a word. Meanwhile, Keeley regrets hiring her inexperienced friend as her PR firm’s model when her boss Jack pays a visit.
Rebecca discovers Rupert is physically involved with his assistant, and Ted confronts his ex-wife, stating he was angry learning about her unethical relationship with Dr. Jacob.
