Ted Lasso S2 Ep 8: Sam & Rebecca Are a Couple Now

Sabecca… Ram… Okay, we’ll get to a couple name later. First things first: this ship is a-sailing!

Prior to Ted Lasso’s S2 Episode 8, Rebecca had left her mystery Bantr man hanging, stalling to reply to his request about meeting. Her hesitation is understandable since she was afraid that their chemistry wouldn’t translate from page to reality. For Sam, hope reignited every time ellipses popped up as Rebecca struggled to reply, only to be bummed out when she stopped short.

We all like a good run of “will they, won’t they?” But even Sam knows that it can get tiring after its initial rush. He sends out a Bantr ultimatum: “Dinner tonight at Le Tucci, 8 pm. I’ll be there. So should you.”

Rebecca accepts the invitation (finally!) but once again gets cold feet right outside the restaurant. Thanks to Keeley’s pep talk, Rebecca makes her way in… only to be bump into Sam. What a coincidence!

The two figure out that they’re each other Bantr dates; Rebecca instantly embarrassed, while Sam joyed at the prospect. It was interesting to note how Rebecca tries to steer clear of replicating her husband’s actions when she finds out that Sam is much younger than her. The two decide to have dinner as friends but the chemistry is undeniable.

A walk home and a good night’s kiss later, Rebecca puts a full stop to the night. A series of events happen in between, including Jamie’s horrible father causing a locker room drama that somehow manages to eclipse Richmond’s pitiable loss to Man City.

It’s upon hearing Sam’s interview post-match, that she realizes the only thing worse than failing is not trying at all. It results in a cute attempt of Rebecca running to Sam, only to find him waiting on her doorstep.

Despite all the reservations, Rebecca and Sam have decided to give their relationship a go. However, Rebecca’s position as a boss may lead to interesting dynamics, especially across the Richmond club.

It is yet to be seen if the two will keep their relationship under wraps or take it public.

About Season 2, here is what Rebecca’s Hannah Waddingham has to say to Collider.

We are so precious about this show that, I’m not gonna lie, I was nervous to see how – for everyone, not just my character – I was thinking, ‘Oh god, we’ve created such a honey. How do we not let the fans down, or where they think it’ll go or whatever?’ And the brilliant thing is, the writers are on their own journey and have done us all such a service, such a great service.

Seeing how the show deals with relationships, be it, Ted with his divorce, avoiding a Jaime-Keeley-Roy triangle and even portraying a healthy marriage through Leslie Higgins, assures us that Rebecca-Sam too will be a proper tale too. I for one can’t wait to for it!
