‘The Batman’ Solo Movie Set on DC’s Earth-2: Reports

Robert Pattinson’s upcoming superhero film The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, will be set on a different Earth, reports Screen Rant. This new earth will be none other than DC’s Earth-2, where we are likely to witness Batman’s early years. The report comes not long after The Batman trailer, which looked quite promising, especially with Matt Reeves’ impeccable direction.

With this latest piece of news, the Matt Reeves reboot could technically allow his Batman to interact with the likes of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and others, once The Flash introduces the multiverse. But more on that later.

The brand-new Batman will go back to his old-school ways of solving crimes. There will be much less technology and much more analysis as the Caped Crusader fights crime and deals with his enemies.

So, is it a prequel of sorts? No, it is an entirely unrelated premise, most likely in line with DC’s multiverse stories. The said report has also confirmed that with the exception of The Batman, all future movies and TV shows will be set in the same universe.

Set in the fictional universe of Earth-2, which was originally created to explain the differences between the original Golden Age and current (Earth-1) Silver Age versions of DC characters, the movie could allow different versions of Batman to appear side-by-side. (The DCEU may only have a couple of them, but DC Comics has a rich lineup of Batmen, including the DC super-villain, The Batman Who Laughs.)

DCEU has big plans for encashing on the rich DC multiverse, which was first introduced from the comics with The CW’s major crossover series, Crisis of the Infinite Earths. Another of DCEU’s upcoming solo movies The Flash is all set to have both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck returning to star as their respective Batmen; an obvious nod to the Flashpoint, the world-changing Flash event that reset the DC Universe in 2011.

The multiverse plot could become the lifesaver to Ben Affleck’s Batman, who was supposed to star in the original Batman solo. WB did bring back Batfleck for a quick visit in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with quite the hi-tech armor.

As we know, WB has no plans of going forth with the SnyderVerse, much to the chagrin of the fans. But in case WB wants to keep Affleck around for longer, considering the investments made into his character in Snyder Cut, we now know that The Batman won’t be affected, considering it is set on another Earth.

What’s exciting is the prospect of these two worlds colliding in an epic crossover. Even if that doesn’t happen, The Batman’s new universe could become DC’s “Batman Cinematic Universe,” since Batman in the DCEU didn’t end up going as originally planned. Either way, big plans for the Caped Crusader ahead!
