‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ Trailer Brings Back Fear

Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. As the eighth installment in the horror franchise and the third movie in The Conjuring series, the movie will see the return of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in their darkest case yet.

The trailer, which was dropped recently, looks into a renowned murder trial that took place in 1981 in Connecticut. But shockingly enough, the defendant accused pleads not guilty by reason of demonic possession, which is what the movie looks into. Check out the trailer here:

Ed and Lorraine Warren are hired to validate the claims and find paranormal activity involving a witch’s totem near the defendant’s property. Other than Lorraine’s terrifying clairvoyant investigations and haunting scares, the trailer also does an excellent job of pitching the conversation of reason against faith.

The case the upcoming movie will explore is none other than the renowned trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, which is also known as the “Devil Made Me Do It” case, thus earning the movie’s title. It is known to be the first court case in American history where the defendant blamed demonic possession to prove his innocence and is hotly debated to this day.

In 1981, Johnson was accused of manslaughter for killing his landlord Alan Bono. According to the Glatzel family testimony, their 11-year-old son was possessed by a demonic spirit that compelled Johnson’s actions.

Ed and Lorraine Warren were brought in to help Glatzel, who, along with priests, performed several exorcisms to help the possessed boy. However, after fleeing Glatzel’s body, it moved into Johnson.

The movie was first announced in 2017 with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick in charge of the screenplay. It will be the first Conjuring movie not directed by James Wan, as he had earlier stated he would not be filming another in the series due to scheduling conflicts with other ventures.

In 2018, director Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) was confirmed to direct the upcoming installment. Even then, Wan remains involved in his famed horror franchise as the producer.
