With CW’s Legacies Canceled, The Vampire Diaries Franchise Officially Ends

The CW officially canceled The Legacies, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, after four seasons. With the end of the show, the 13-year television run of The Vampire Diaries franchise also comes to an end. The series was the second spinoff of The Vampire Diaries and premiered in October 2015, after The Originals, which aired first in October 2013.

The Legacies revolved around Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, and picked up from the end of The Originals, which focused on the Mikaelsons. She attended the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted, which was founded using the money Damon Salvatore donated after Stefan’s death.

The Legacies had various references from both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. It saw the return of many recurring characters in the franchise, including Alaric Saltzman, Jeremy Gilbert, and Rebecca Mikaelson.

As per THR reports, Legacies will not be returning for a fifth season. In all probability, this will end the run of the fan-favorite franchise on television, as no other spinoff seems to be on the cards yet. Both TVD and The Originals have also concluded.

The TVD franchise remained one of CW’s most successful franchises, with over 300 episodes across three different shows. While no other spinoff is on the cards for the foreseeable future, franchise creator Julie Plec is reportedly developing another vampire-centric young adult television series in the form of Vampire Academy.

The CW has also recently canceled DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batgirl. The news of Legacies being canceled is sure to leave a void in the hearts of TVD fans, as this will be the first time in a long time that no show from the TVD universe will be on television.

You can watch The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies on The CW.
