There is a lot going on in the new poster of Marvel’s upcoming series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The poster gives a glimpse of all the characters from the Captain America movies who are returning to the series and also features a look at a rumored new superhero, who is set to appear in the show.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a continuation of the Captain America story, with Steve Rogers passing on his shield to his friend Sam Wilson/Falcon. Bucky/Winter Soldier and Sam grapple with Captain America’s legacy as they face their old enemy Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl).
A new avatar of Zemo features on the poster—he has his comic-accurate purple mask and suit on. A black-clad Sharon Carter is also seen, who, as the new trailer suggests, is an agent on the run. A few masked figures also appear on the lower corner, possibly members of the anarchist group The Flag-Smashers.
However, the character that has piqued the interests of most is seen in the middle of the poster, holding Captain America’s vibranium shield. He is wearing a superhero suit, which is different from the red and blue suit that Steve Rogers wore. Fans are theorizing that this is John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) who will debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In the comics, Walker takes on Captain America’s mantle for a brief period and then becomes U.S. Agent. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier might be the starting point of Walker’s transformation to U.S. Agent. But does that mean that a showdown between Sam and Walker for Steve Rogers’ shield will be a major storyline in the show? We will have to wait and see.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
