Betty continues to go on a downward spiral as she continues her substance and alcohol abuse. Susan finds her lying face down and is shocked to see her mother in this state. As Susan tries to confront her about her problem, Betty snaps at her and tells her to leave. Susan reaches out to Gerry again and he finally acknowledges Betty’s problem and they decide to stage an intervention. After seeing the impact her drinking has had on her family, Betty agrees to go to a rehab clinic.
The Pearl Harbor attack marks the US’ entry into the World War, with Franklin’s refusal to pick a side no longer an option. Now that he and Eleanor are on the same page, he realizes what a pivotal role she plays in morale-boosting and has her address the public several times. Her daily contact with the American masses became of primary importance to the administration.
Michelle is faced with having to lend her support to Hillary for the 2016 elections, in wake of the Access Hollywood interview. However, she struggles with it as she still remembers Hillary’s comments from the 2008 campaign. She eventually campaigns for Hillary in order to help her win the popular vote.
