The Flash DOP on Michael Keaton’s Batman and the Film’s “Massive Scope”

The OG Batman from the Tim Burton movie is coming to DCEU, and since the news was announced, anticipation for The Flash film has increased more than ever.

Michael Keaton originally played the Caped Crusader in 1989’s Batman. With him returning alongside Batfleck, fans will get two Batmen in the same film.

The Flash has been a long time coming, with various director and screenwriter changes, before Andy Muschietti took the project on.

Supposedly, a multiverse is at play, and the film will have Supergirl (Sasha Calle) with Henry Cavill’s Superman rumored to make an appearance as well. And if you’re not sold on this one already, here’s all the reassurance you need.

In a recent interview with Collider, cinematographer Henry Braham talked about his work on The Flash, which is currently in production.

[The Flash is] going great. I mean, it’s a complex movie, and it’s a fantastic concept of bringing in the generations of these kind of comic books. Again, it’s not really a comic book movie. It’s not based in reality, but it’s much more kind of technically complex—I think all the filmmakers are really keen that the technical complexity of the storytelling doesn’t get in the way of just good-quality filmmaking.

You can also expect the film to be grounded in reality despite being a superhero film. because that’s exactly what the team is going for.

Hopefully, I don’t think it’ll ever come across as a superhero movie. It will come across as a movie, and that’s what it is. I think that’s the way these things need to go. We need to be making great, great, great films that happen to have superheroes who have truthful characters behind them, with all the character flaws that we find in humanity.

Henry Braham

Braham was careful not to give away anything major, as plot details have not been revealed yet. However, he did discuss Keaton’s Batman and his experience working with the cast.

It’s a pleasure working with the cast, as they’re fantastic. Michael, of course, is a genius, and it’s wonderful to see him recreate that role but in the present day. It’s wonderful. I think the movie has a massive scope, and I’m lucky to be able to work on movies I’d like to go and see. I’m not really interested in comic book movies. I’m interested in movies that take me on a journey, an emotional journey, and a visual journey.

The film will take inspiration from the Flashpoint comic storyline and follow Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) as he attempts to reverse the events that led to his mother’s death. However, his decision to time travel and alter the past leads to disastrous consequences.

It might be absurd, but I have a theory. WHAT IF Keaton’s Batman is actually Bruce’s father in the alternate timeline? As in the Flashpoint timeline, Bruce Wayne is murdered instead of his parents, which leads to his father Thomas Wayne taking on the mantle of Batman and his mother Martha Wayne becoming the Joker.

(Just waiting for more cast details to come out so I can make theories about who will play Martha’s Joker… Perhaps Michelle Pfeiffer???).

The Flash is currently slated for a theatrical release on November 4, 2022.
