Barry Allen Runs His Last Lap in S9 of The Flash, Trailer Out Now

Most Arrowverse shows have already wrapped up their series on the CW, but the fastest man alive has kept running so far. Reaching his last lap, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen will close his journey as The Flash after the upcoming ninth and final season. CW finally released the first trailer for season 9 of the Flash, teasing new faces and also some old ones that we’ll see in the last season.

The Flash remains the longest-running Arrowverse show, and its final season marks the end of that universe. Season 9 will be its shortest, with only 13 episodes on the list, but if Gustin and Wallace are to be believed, the last run will not be anything less than spectacular.

Season 9’s synopsis explains how the new season begins one week after the season 8 finale, with Barry and Iris trying to reconnect as a married couple. But an unknown new adversary rises and sets a deadly group of Rogues on Central City, threatening another world-ending disaster. It’ll be up to Team Flash to step up and vanquish the enemy and save their city.

After waiting all these months since the stunning season 8 finale, thirty seconds may seem too short to explain what’s coming next, but we’re making do. Even if the trailer was criminally short, we did get some interesting tidbits out of it.

The Flash Season 8

Barry’s ominous dreams about Joe West after his close call with death in season 8 seem to be readying fans for another major character death – especially when Joe refers to Barry having lost so much already.

The teaser features a cloaked being, who’ll be revealed as one of the season’s big bads, though their identity remains shrouded. We catch glimpses of a few old faces, namely Pied Piper and Goldface, and a new face also shows up – Owen Mercer’s new Captain Boomerang.

Grant Gustin as The Flash

Gustin’s Flash also enlists the help of an unknown ally in the teaser, who we’re guessing is Javicia Leslie’s Batwoman, who’ll revive her role as Red Death in the coming season. With the red flashes and lightning spattered across in the half-minute teaser, we think it indicates her showing up sometime in season 9.

Season 9 of The Flash will premiere on CW on February 8, 2023 and will conclude the Arrowverse and the series once it ends.
