The Flash to Become the Longest-running Arrowverse Show as S9 Gets Renewed

Is longevity one of Barry Allen’s superpowers? Because The Flash has just been renewed for Season 9 by The CW.

The Flash is currently airing its Season 8, and with the new season’s renewal, the Scarlet Speedster’s tale is about to be Arrowverse’s longest-running series.

The series first premiered on the network in 2014, the first to expand what later became the Arrowverse. Even if the plot falters sometimes, it might be one of The CW’s most successful series to date.

Grant Gustin also recently signed a new contract which will allow him to star in Season 9. However, the actor went with a one-year deal instead of a multi-year contract, which makes one wonder about the series’ uncertain fate after the upcoming season.

TVLine revealed the network’s slate of renewed shows which also included its other promising DC show, Superman & Lois, with a new third season.

The CW also renewed other shows like All American (Season 5), Riverdale (Season 7), Walker (Season 3), Kung Fu (Season 3) and Nancy Drew (Season 4) for its 2022-23 schedule.

About the renewals, CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a statement,

“As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond. These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint.”

The fates of other CW shows are still undecided as the network’s parent companies, Paramount and WarnerMedia, are currently discussing its sale.

If they go through with the deal, there might be changes in its programming strategy, which might result in slashing shows with low ratings which are already at a risk of cancellation.

The Flash airs on The CW on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET, with Season 8 expected to premiere its finale on June 8, 2022.
