Barry Allen will face an iconic DC villain from the comics, Red Death, in the final season of The Flash, according to the new synopsis for The Flash season 9 episode 2.

The Flash is one of the longest-running and most successful series on The CW. The network is all set to bid goodbye to the decade-long show next month. The final season of The Flash will consist of 13 episodes.

The final season will focus on Barry Allen as he faces his old and new foes while trying to build a secure future alongside his wife, Iris Wes-Allen. NEW KID IN TOWN – Barry (Grant Gustin) feels guilty for what happened to Caitlin and Mark (Jon Cor) comes up with a plan which makes everyone skeptical. Meanwhile, Red Death looms in Central City and commands that failure is not an option. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) asks Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) to make a choice which leads Cecile to think about the greater good. Allegra (Kayla Compton) and Chester (Brandon McKnight) take a step in a new direction. Lastly, old friends pay an unexpected visit to S.T.A.R. Labs. Eric Wallace directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Kristen Kim (#902). Original airdate 2/15/2023.

Although The CW has always kept quiet about the role of Red Death in The Flash season 9, set photos confirmed that we will see a new version of Red Death in season 9, played by Javicia Leslie of Batwoman fame.

In the original DC Comics, Red Death is introduced as an alternative doppelganger of Batman aka Bruce Wayne. However, the Arrowverse version of Red Death will be another variation of Ryan Wilder. Based on the previous format of The Flash series, we can assume that Red Death will have a significant role in season 9.

She is likely to appear in a number of episodes. Not much is known about her story in the series yet. However, interestingly, it is confirmed that the original Batwoman will also make an appearance in The Flash. In fact, Leslie was also seen on The Flash sets in her Batwoman costume, where she encountered Red Death.

So, it is very likely that Red Death and Batwoman will have at least one encounter in season 9. Apart from new villains, many previous villains are also set to return in The Flash season 9, including The Hotness, Goldface, Rainbow Raider and Pied Piper.

Only time will tell what the final season of The Flash has in store for us, but it will be a bittersweet moment for the show’s fans for sure.
