The Halo Ring Is Finally Revealed in Ep 6. But what actually is it?

The majestic Halo ring finally made its debut in the concluding minutes of Episode 6. Might I add that it looks anything other than the killing machine it’s supposed to be.

In this episode, John tests his boundaries with Halsey, uncovering the truth of how he actually was “recruited” into the Spartan program. Halsey’s recent failure has taken her off UNSC’s good side, letting Miranda have a go at studying the Halo artifact.

This is ultimately what gets us to the Halo Ring!

In Halo Ep 6, Master Chief activates the Halo artifact in Makee’s presence. This gives them both a vision of one of the Halo Rings—a device that the Forerunners created to wipe off all sentient life within three radii of the galactic center.

While it’s a tiny bit surprising that Makee is also transported (mentally like Chief) to the Halo Ring without touching the artifact, we can reason it out to her being the Blessed One as well.

Perhaps all Blessed Ones in the vicinity of an activated Halo object can have and share visions.

Although the two are physically still on Reach, in their vision, Master Chief confirms they can touch each other.

The whole experience lasts but a few minutes, with Chief’s consciousness quickly returning back to his physical being in Reach before we can understand what exactly the Ring is all about.

Fortunately for you, I have some details:

Why was the Halo Array created?

So, the ring we see in Halo Ep 6 is just one of the seven rings that make up the Halo Array.

During the time of the Forerunners, a parasitic entity known as the Flood began to cause rampage all over. The Flood feeds on and mutates sentient life and as such, are known to be one of the universe’s biggest threats.

After fighting the Flood for hundreds of years, the Forerunners saw that the last resort to defeat them would be to cut out their food sourcesentient life.

Hence, they designed the Halo Array as a device that could wipe out life within three radii of the galactic center, once activated.

But the Rings were not just termination devices. On the contrary, the Rings were created to be habitable from the inner side, primarily as research facilities. That’s exactly how Chief and Makee land inside the ring, in a luscious green field.

Now, you must be wondering where the Covenant fits into all of this. Well, to put it gently, the Covenant believes that activating the “Sacred Rings” (as they call them) will take them to a higher plane of existence.

Apparently, their spiritual belief outweighs the very real science that the Halo Rings will kill them all dead.

How the Halo Array’s arc will play out in the rest of the show is yet to be seen. But if you’d like to see even more stunning visuals of the Rings, I suggest playing the games or at least checking out some of the game’s images.
