Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Review: And Yet Another Rowdy Adventure Ensues

You’ll need a bodyguard for this one, ‘cause you might just die laughing in this hysterical sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard! Come on, guys, you saw the bodyguard pun coming. Alright, I’ll work on my pun game. For now, let’s talk about our film.

1. Quick Review

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

Watch Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard on:

I was looking forward to this one for someone who loved the mindless action and fun, and needless to say, the self-aware absurd meta-humor. And it’s safe to say that it didn’t disappoint. It’s crazier and takes absurdity to a whole new level.

But is it worth watching? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for, right?

2. Is It Worth Watching?

If you are looking for the usual Ryan Reynolds kind of humor paired with Samuel Jackson’s madness, I think you’ll find more than enough of it. Oh, and watching Salma Hayek going berserk is a treat (Isn’t that a given?).

Yes, a couple of things could have been better. One, the choreography of the action sequences was much more tight and slick in the previous film compared to this one. Two, there could’ve been just a little more wit in the dialogues as there was in the previous one.

Nevertheless, it’s got everything a good action-comedy flick needs and is worth a watch!

3. Plot

The film continues four years after the previous adventure of Michael Bryce and Darius un-killable Kinkaid! This time, there’s yet another big baddie Antonio Banderas (I bet there’s no one suave as this guy), trying to take down Europe’s cyber network infrastructure.

Darius and Sonya

Michael goes for therapy because of the traumatic event with Darius and decides to go on a sabbatical to find his ‘spiritual self.’ (Trust fate to always mess that up, even in real life.) Enter Sonya Kinkaid is looking for her captured husband and wants Michael’s help to save him.

What ensues is a wild adventure as the paths of all these people cross, and hey! If you’re looking for yet another surprise element, Morgan Freeman will deliver that. Can I mention his god-like voice, or has that been addressed enough?

As the fate of Europe rests on an odd-couple and a mentally traumatized, non-functioning bodyguard, we are in for loads of entertainment.

4. Cast & Characters

The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel Jackson is motherf***ing good. (I know you read that Samuel’s voice, and I know the asterisk sort of takes away from the feel, but bear with me.) Also, Salma Hayek is delirious as Sonya (Yes! I had to google synonyms for crazy, mad, hysterical, cause she is all that more in this film!).

Besides these, we also have a brief appearance from Morgan Almighty Freeman and the ever-so sexy Antonio Banderas. Honestly, I wanted to see more of them ‘cause what they bring to characters is just so unique to them!

Jokes aside, check out Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. A couple of hours (actually lesser) of fun and laughter never hurt anybody. It’s madness personified by actors who commit to the wacky, goofy theme of this action movie.
