Hunger Games Prequel About Coriolanus Snow To Start Filming in 2022

Susan Collins’ novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is getting a movie adaptation at Lionsgate. The Hunger Games prequel film will start production in the first half of 2022.

Lionsgate motion picture group chairman Joe Drake gave the update during the company’s quarterly earnings call. The sequel about 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is targeted for release in either late fiscal 2023 or early 2024. (Via Deadline)

Drake stated that the pre-production is ‘moving along really, really well.’ Hunger Games was a massive hit and, in total, yielded $3 billion in global box office across its four films. The sequel will likely be a theatrical release as well.

There’s an audience that wants to come back (to the theaters). I believe the market’s going to come back… There’s going to be a strong, robust platform for us to monetize our movies.

The prequel movie will focus on a young Coriolanus Snow, years before becoming the tyrannical President of Panem.

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capital, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games.

The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined — every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin.

Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.
