‘The Irregulars’ Trailer Teases Sherlock Holmes as the Bad Guy

Netflix yesterday dropped the first trailer for The Irregulars, an upcoming British crime drama series filled with spine-chilling adventures. The show, set in the Sherlock-Holmes world, is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works.

The plot focuses around the Baker Street Irregulars, a bunch of ragamuffins recruited by the detective and his partner Dr. Watson as secret informants to solve and report mysterious supernatural crimes in Victorian London. In the books, they are portrayed as side characters who help Holmes solve his cases.

However, the show has made some major changes to the original storyboard by focusing on the street urchins. On the other hand, Holmes has been made the villain who wrongfully takes credit for The Irregulars’ success.

Now, with the trailer reveal, Holmes and Watson’s portrayal as a duo taking advantage of the kids has been reinforced. Baring the dark supernatural elements upfront, the focus is on Jessie (Darci Shaw), a girl who can “see things normal people cannot.” Along with her sister Bea (Thaddea Graham), she joins the rest of The Irregulars—Billy, Spike, and Leo, played by Jojo Macari, McKell David, and Harrison Osterfield, respectively—to fight against occult forces.

They also have to close the Rip, an interdimensional portal that could become the gateway to dangerous elements that will wreak havoc on Earth.

Even though the show hasn’t dropped yet, Netflix has already renewed it for a second season, thus establishing their confidence in the show’s success. The supernatural elements and ghastly horror scenes give it a dark and edgy mood. The cast of British actors also gives excellent and gripping performances.

Furthermore, the concept of portraying Holmes as the bad guy lends it an interesting point of view. All in all, The Irregulars seems to be heading the right way and is very well on the road to becoming the next hit YA series.

The show is scheduled to be released on March 26, 2021.
