The Mandalorian S3 Begins Filming, Will See The Return Of Greef Karga

Carl Weathers, who portrayed Greef Karga in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, is returning to direct and star in season 3.

The Mandalorian season 3 has already had plenty of delays so far, so fans of the series are ecstatic that it is finally back on track. Weathers tweeted saying that he will begin filming for season 3 from October 13.

Weathers’ Karga is an agent of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild who becomes an unusual ally to Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian.

The series released its first two seasons in 2019 and 2020, but season 3 won’t see the light of day till 2022. The creators decided to step back and make way for the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett spinoff series, which is set to release at the end of December.

This isn’t the only Disney+ series being held back due to another project in its respective franchise. MCU’s Ms Marvel also got delayed to make way for the Hawkeye series set to premiere this November.

Star Wars fans went crazy when The Mandalorian season 2 saw the return of a young Luke Skywalker. Lucasfilm, as always, is keeping mum about details of the third season (and also busy promoting The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi).

In the Disney Gallery documentary, series creator Jon Favreau revealed,

Carl wasn’t supposed to be in the whole show. Carl was in Episode One and then got knocked off in Episode Three. That was it. He was gonna be in full prosthetics, as a different alien race, and then we switched it up. So it was like a favor, I said, ‘Just come and do one of these’ He said, ‘Fine, I don’t really act much more, but fine.’ So Carl’s supposed to come in, and he’s gonna be in 101 and then 103. He gets shot, he’s out.

So with the character of Karga returning, it’ll be interesting to see how season 3 changes the course of the story. While speaking to THR just a little over a month ago, Weathers said,

You get a sense of something that’s new in its own way, of stories being told in a way that you hadn’t seen before or experienced before. For me, [The Mandalorian] definitely had that feeling of being historic.

The Mandalorian season 3 will supposedly premiere sometime around late 2022 on Disney+.
