The Mandalorian S3 Trailer Breakdown: May the Force be with You.

It’s been two long years of waiting, but our favorite duo finally returns with another spree of adventures. An official trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 is just out and it gives us a glimpse of what lies next for Din Djarin and Grogu after the pair reunited in The Book of Boba Fett.

Djarin has a lot of things on his mind ahead of season 3. He accepted Grogu into his family, but that had its consequences. He had to break many oaths and was estranged from the group which raised him, i.e., The Tribe.

Season 3 will test the relationship between Djarin and Grogu, as they will face adversities from all directions. Also, Djarin is now the owner of the Darksaber, which makes him the rightful heir to Mandalore.

But owning the Darksaber comes at a price. Let’s dive into the details of The Mandalorian season 3 trailer:

The Mandalorians Reunite

The Mandalorians Reunite

The trailer opens with a showdown between two groups of Mandalorians. We see Djarin leading a group of like-minded Mandalorians facing off against another group.

Djarin’s voiceover from the shot utters the words, “Our people are scattered. What are we? What do we stand for…?”

It seems like Djarin is trying to persuade the other group to join him. This sets the tone for The Mandalorian season 3. It is about Din and his people rebuilding Mandalore after the Great Purge.

This scene takes place amidst the ruins of Sundari. We see the destroyed capital city of Mandalore. Will Din Djarin be able to rebuild what was once a beautiful civilization?

Nevarro: The Free City

Moments later, we see Grogu and Din return to Nevarro to meet Greef Karga. He appears to be the leader of this city.

Interestingly, Nevarro seems to be a safe haven for all kinds of creatures. We see a Kowakian monkey-lizard nesting on a tree in Nevarro. This creature is almost always smuggled and sold as a pet in the criminal world.

Seeing it free is symbolic of the fact that Nevarro has achieved freedom from all kinds of imperialism.

We See Many Droids

Droids

The droids are finally here, and we love it!

Firstly, we come across the R5-D4 droid inside Mando’s Naboo Starfighter. Din and Grogu depart from Motto’s starship workshop. This makes us believe that she is the one who programs R5-D4 to co-pilot Din’s ship.

We also come across the famous Star Wars droid types, including B1 battle droids, R2-D2-like astromech droids, and an RA-7 Death Star droid, among others.

Pershing is Back

Dr. Pershing

There are a couple of Coruscant shots in the trailer, but the most intriguing has Dr. Pershing. Fans will remember Dr. Pershing as the chief scientist behind the Imperial Empire’s cloning fiasco.

Seeing Dr. Pershing’s return in the trailer may point toward the fact that season 3 will tell us more about the Empire’s cloning experiments.

Flashback to Order 66

At the 1-minute mark, we see Grogu having another flashback to his time inside the Jedi Temple. The very next shot shows four Jedi trying to defend the temple from an anonymous threat.

We know Grogu was present inside the Jedi temple when Order 66 was executed. Could we experience Order 66 from Grogu’s perspective in season 3?

Given that Star Wars: The Bad Batch is also airing new episodes every week, it will be imposing if season 3 has bits of Order 66 in the story!

Babu Frik makes an appearance!

Babu Frik

The trailer also refers to the film trilogy that follows the events of The Mandalorian. And who better to add as an easter egg than Babu Frik? The Anzellan droid smith was seen in Episodes VIII and IX.

It will be interesting to find out if he travels from Mandalore to Kijmi, where he will later work and live in Episode VIII.

The trailer’s final scene shows Grogu taking down an anonymous enemy after Grogu emerges from the cave system.

However, if we focus on the background, it appears to be Din leaning against a rock formation before the monster drops down in front of Grogu.

The trailer posed many questions, a few surprises, and even more exciting details that will all be answered on March 1. Stay tuned!
