The Mayor of Kingston Finale Ends with a Bloody Massacre

If you loved Yellowstone, we bet you binge-watched The Mayor of Kingstown! Jeremy Renner stars as Mike McLusky, who must fill in as “mayor” for his brother who suddenly passes away.

During this, he has to straddle between keeping the prisons and politicians under his jurisdiction happy — none of which is easy or sometimes, lands him into even more trouble. So how did The Mayor of Kingstown S1 finale end?

In The Mayor of Kingstown finale, the prisoners carry out a deadly massacre after growing tired of their demands being refused. While Mike’s brother, Kyle, is caught in the crossfire, he is rescued by the end of the episode.

The Mayor of Kingstown was an intense show to begin with and the finale takes this to a whole different level. Let’s inspect it in more detail:

The Bloody Rebellion

If you’re going to make someone do your dirty work, they’re eventually going to come up with payback. This is exactly how The Mayor of Kingstown’s ending rolls out — The prisoners carried out hit orders on behalf of the law enforcement. But getting nothing in return, they decide to take matters into their own hands.

Although Mike risks his life to go into the prison to negotiate, it’s obvious that the prisoners have made their choice. As P-Dog expresses, a lot of the inmates have life sentences which mean they’re doomed to suffer in any case. At least rebelling against the system for the injustice that they’ve been put through is a good cause to die for.

With that, the prisoners open fire on the guards, reigning terror all over. The episode makes it a point to drive home the notion that this is one of the deadliest prison massacres witnessed, calling forth the need for national guards and SWAT teams.

Thankfully, as rogue as the prisoners go, there are no major character deaths that take place other than P-Dog.

Kyle and Ian’s Escape

As we know from the last episode, Mike’s brother, Kyle, is stuck in the prison’s sewer, very much in danger of being shot down by the prisoners.

All through this chaos, having his baby brother back safe has been Mike’s priority. There’s a shower of relief when the police are able to bring the cell coverage back on. With this, Kyle is able to text Mike, which also allows the police to track and track him.

Thankfully, both Kyle and Ian are rescued by a SWAT team by the end of the ordeal. The two brothers share an emotional embrace when they reunite.

Mike and Iris’ Doomed Love

By the end of the episode, Mike finally returns home with a champagne bottle to celebrate his apparent victory — despite the massacre, he is absolved of any wrongdoing in the eyes of the law.

There he finds Iris, equally bloody and shaky. It’s apparent that she’s had an encounter with the bear roaming about Mike’s backyard and this has sent her spiraling down an existential hole, to the point of self-harming.

She confesses she’s a lost soul and it’s unsure if this comment also speaks about her relationship with Mike. But one thing is certain, it highlights that both of them are going through their own personal trials, which may fracture their relationship further.

Milo’s Loose Ends

Much like his GOT counterpart, Aabidan Gillen’s character here too is one that cannot be read easily. On the surface level, it would seem like the Russian mobster’s interest in Mike lies purely in controlling him, or even converting him to the faction.

But from schemes involving lost money to tracing serial killers, Milo has been wrapping Mike around his finger to get him to do all his dirty work. Whether this is an exercise of trust or betrayal remains to be seen and is definitely something we can look forward to in S2!t
