‘The Nevers’ HBO Max Premiere: Release Date, Plot, Trailer & More

Joss Whedon’s The Nevers is all set to make its debut on April 11, 2021. Here’s everything you need to know about HBO Max’s upcoming new series.

Taking place in Victorian London, the show focuses on a group of women gifted with unusual abilities who must navigate their lives through countering enemies and dangerous missions that might change the course of the world.

It comes down to the quick-fisted Amalia True and Penance Adair, an inventor, to protect some special “orphans”. Combining different genres and styles, it will be very similar to Firefly, another of Whedon’s creations.

The series will consist of 10 episodes and will debut on HBO Max on April 11, with episodes dropping every week.

‘The Nevers’ First Look

Following up the teaser from two months ago, HBO released another trailer last month, which has already racked up more than 8 million views.

Overall, the trailer gives a good look at the show’s premise, from the setting to the lineup of characters. Putting Laura Donnelly’s character front and centre, the clip signifies the important role she is to play. It also provides a brief introduction to the history of the Touched and their ‘powers.

Furthermore, HBO also released a poster of the upcoming series, depicting the main characters against a dark, starry-skied background with the title reading, “A touch of power can change the world.”

Everything We Know About HBO’s Upcoming Show
The Nevers

Initially, Joss Whedon, known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Avengers, was hired as the director, writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the upcoming series.

In November 2020, he announced his departure due to the taxing nature of working in a big production amidst the coronavirus pandemic, which brought down his energy levels. However, Whedon’s on-set presence had also been criticized by his fellow workmen as “gross and abusive”.

Several critics who have already gotten a peek at the first few episodes seem to have passed their judgments. But instead of criticizing the show, most of the reviews are tainted due to the accusations against Whedon of workplace harassment.

A month after Whedon’s exit, in January 2020, the British screenwriter Philippa Goslett, known for her work in Little Ashes and Mary Magdalene, had been brought in to replace him. Furthermore, Douglas Petrie and Jane Espenson, (both of whom have worked with Whedon before on Buffy) serve as executive producers of the show.

The series features an ensemble cast.
