Sam keeps his promise to Dr. Strauss about informing the therapist before he makes his next kill – by bringing his next victim back to the house and planning to kill him right after.
Alan somehow talks down Sam from killing Elias without pushing him to harm both his prisoners. Sam holds off, only barely, but is adamant about killing Elias. Strauss advises him to trust his therapist and go to his ex-wife to shift his current emotional state, and Sam leaves for his ex-wife’s place.

5. Episode 4 Recap
Sam has brought his latest victim to his house and added another prisoner to his list except for Dr. Strauss. Strauss advises him to distract himself from his need to kill, but at first, Sam denies being capable of doing so, blaming his father for “fucking him up.”
But on Alan’s repeated requests to go to work normally and abstain from killing. Sam passes a day without killing Elias, but even at work, he can’t stop thinking about finishing the job. Elias and Alan bond over Sam’s lunacy and their shared fear of getting killed.
Sam returns and is on the rampage to kill Elias and get it over with. Strauss struggles to talk him down, but suddenly another familial connection strikes him to stop Sam from killing Elias and moving on to his next victim.
Alan asks Sam to visit his ex-wife, forcing himself into an emotional shock and inducing a change in his current emotional state. Sam, reluctant at first, obliges and leaves. Alan calms Elias down, pondering about what next could push Sam into taking one of their lives.
