The Patient Season 1 Episode 7: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

The Patient Season 1 Episode 7: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

Last week’s episode had diverted the Hulu series onto a more intense path as Sam killed Elias and sent Dr. Alan Strauss spiraling. This week’s episode ranged from Alan having a mental therapy session with his dead therapist Charlie, hence the episode’s title, to him finally hatching a simple yet dangerous escape plan.

1. Episode 7 Synopsis/Speculation

Dr. Strauss and Sam try to make new connections in their pursuit of an elusive peace.

With Episode 6 done and dusted, Episode 7 may finally get the law involved in Sam’s life. And while that will prove to be a huge turning point for Alan, will it be for the better or worse?

Will Alan be rescued by the police or found out by Sam and fill that grave he helped dig so efficiently?

Alan’s mention of his children in the letter and the next episode’s title Kaddish insinuates that the upcoming episode will dwell deeper into the reason behind the failure of the Strauss father-son relationship.

And when one family’s ties and issues are being exposed, why not two? Sam’s mother indirectly abusing him due to her ignorance in his childhood may be explored in the next episode. It could shine a light upon Sam’s past, which is still a mystery even when we’re halfway through the season.

Good or bad, Episode 7 will dictate the course of the remaining episodes and what it means for the therapist and the patient.

Alan spirals after witnessing Elias’ murder at the hands of Sam. He disassociates from reality by envisioning himself in a Nazi gas camp, bashing a pitcher against Sam’s head, and attending a therapy session with his dead therapist.

After realizing that his recent tactics had failed, and he could kill two birds with one stone, helping Sam and himself, Alan devised a new plan. He advises Sam to place Elias’ body somewhere it can be found, like his other victims.

When Sam seems hesitant, Alan explains that Sam may feel some empathy and guilt upon seeing Elias’ relatives after his body is discovered. Sam agrees, and as he leaves Alan alone for a moment, Alan wastes no time putting in motion his secret mission.

Alan hastily writes a note pointing to Sam’s identity as the killer, even leaving a goodbye for his children, and stuffs the paper into Elias’ mouth, hoping it will be found and investigated.
