The Rings of Power Season 1 Episode 5: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

At the end of Episode 4, Galadriel promised she’d be getting her army soon. Though it took some convincing, Galadriel persuaded Numenor’s Queen Regent to stand with her and save the Southlands from the orcs. 

Meanwhile, Adar sends Arondir with a message to the refugees of the Southlands—stand with him or be slain. But within his quest to subdue the men of the Southlands lies a more mysterious intent.

1. Episode 5 Speculation

Galadriel has her army now after Queen Regent of Numenor has seen that the best way to avoid destruction is to fight in the war. In the next episode, we may see Galadriel and Miriel readying their forces to march with the elves to the Southlands.

The Southlands are already in grave danger as Adar will gather his orcs to strike Ostirith, where refugees from all around man’s realm seek safety. We will finally learn more about Sauron’s hilt and what Waldreg meant when he said Theo must ready himself for what’s to come.

Waldreg’s confirmation about the ominous star fall connected to Sauron’s return may also be explained, and we might finally learn more about The Stranger’s identity.

Halbrand adamantly decides to stay in Numenor, never to return to the Southlands again. Will Galadriel keep her fateful companion and ally or lose him to the fears of his past? 

Prince Durin now has his solo mission to find what Gil-Galad wants Elrond to acquire from the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm. Will he be able to find out the hidden motive behind Elrond’s sudden visit to his old friend?

5. Episode 4 Recap

Elrond investigates what Durin is hiding, but Durin only agrees to reveal his secret if Elrond keeps it to himself. Elrond swears secrecy, and the dwarf prince reveals they’ve mined a new ore, Mithril, the same which may bring Moira’s doom.

Durin suspects Elrond may have his own secrets and, upon his father’s behest, goes to Lindon to find out what they are.

Adar frees Arondir to carry a message to Bronwyn and the other Southlands refugees at Ostirith—swear loyalty to Adar or be slain by his orcs. Waldreg discloses he knew the power of Sauron’s hilt too and warns Theo to be ready for something big that is coming, hinting at Sauron’s return.

Galadriel beseeches Numenor’s Queen Regent Miriel to stand with the Elves and defend the Southlands before men’s realm falls and with it, all of Middle-earth. Miriel fears that if Numenor rises to stand with the elves again, it will be destroyed. 

But the omen of the White Tree sets Miriel to reconsider Galadriel’s request. The Queen Regent then joins Galadriel in her quest to find and end Sauron, while Halbrand seemingly abandons the elf.
