1. Quick Review

The Suicide Squad

Air Date: August 6, 2021 Status: Finished Studio: DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, The Safran Company

The Suicide Squad is a grotesquely witty reboot/sequel that is gore, engaging, and wildly funny. Right from the first second, the action is on! This sequel is less murky and is a joyride for the adults. James Gunn sure does know how to make an R-rated genre sassy yet classy.

2. Is It Worth Watching?

Abso-friggin-lutely! The Suicide Squad is a must-watch for all the fans. DC fans can now add this to their small list of films they can be proud of. The violence is graphic yet hysterical, and the satirical take on superheroes is hard to miss. Imagine Deadpool’s humor but even more graphic, dark, and weirdly funnier. That’s what The Suicide Squad offers!

Not many DC live-action films have a witty or satirical style if any. With this, DC breaks new ground and does it successfully.

3. Plot

The film begins with Colonel Rick Flag leading a new batch of the Suicide Squad onto the Corto Maltese island to take down Project Starfish that’s ongoing in Jotunheim. Except, this team’s merely a distraction for the military on the island. This team gets killed, and the actual Suicide Squad with The Peacemaker, Bloodsport, Polka-dot Man, Ratcatcher, and King Shark, enter the island to accomplish the mission.

The film takes us on a ride filled with blood, flesh, wit, hysteria, and loads of laughter. The squad breeds chaos all along the way, and how things unfold is the tale of The Suicide Squad.

4. Cast And Characters

Well, the ensemble cast has glamour written all over it in big, bold letters. It includes Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, John Cena, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, among others. And it’s not merely glamor that carries this film, but the performances are hilarious.

The chemistry between John Cena and Idris Elba is surprisingly impressive. The fact that the two come from opposite backgrounds and yet strike a chord with the audience is impeccable. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn brings the madness wherever she goes, and that’s like a cherry on top!

Overall, it’s a great film. It indeed is. It’s one of the very few DC live-action films that meet our expectations. (#ShotsFired!) The film is a good watch, but it’s also the out-of-sight-out-of-mind kind of film, and perhaps that’s the only complaint I have.

Other than that, it’s as good as they come. So don’t miss it and enjoy it while it lasts because we don’t know when we’ll be seeing another good DC film. #NoOffense.
