In celebration of Umbrella Academy day, aka the day the series first premiered, the official social media accounts of the Netflix series decided to gift fans a tiny glimpse at how the Umbrella kids are doing.
Spoiler alert: By the looks of their umbrellas, they’re far from fine.
The new set of character posters for The Umbrella Academy season 3 revealed our favorite siblings (and Lila) posing behind umbrellas.
Their umbrellas, however, aren’t as stylish as their clothes. They are torn in places with the shadows of tiny sparrows in the background.
Well, guess it was pretty clear who daddy Hargreeves’ favorite children were when The Sparrow Academy got their character posters before the original siblings did.
The only one missing from the Umbrella posters is Ben because he’s part of the Sparrow Academy now as his ghost/spirit died to save Vanya.
A quick refresher of the season 2 finale – when the Umbrella kids get back to the present after saving the world once again, they find out that they’d been replaced by other magical kids now known as the Sparrow Academy.
Reginald Hargreeves was so disappointed in the Umbrella Academy when they met in the past that he adopted completely different kids from the 43 surprise babies. And since Regi hadn’t met Ben, he adopted him once again – meaning Ben’s fate changes, and he doesn’t die as a Sparrow kid.
Although Netflix announced Season 3 would premiere sometime this year, it does not have a confirmed release date yet.
Actress Emmy Raver-Lampman recently told Collider that she has hopes for a summer release window, mentioning that the cast had already started work on the ADR.
As for the story, we know the two Hargreeves Academies will have some conflicts, and the official episode title reveals tease the end of the world once again in classic Umbrella Academy style.
The last episode is titled OBLIVION, referencing Hotel Oblivion, the third comic in the Gerard Way series. However, Raver-Lampman also added that the new season would deviate a bit from the comics.
I think the first season was pretty by the book and following the graphic novel because it’s a new show and wanting to establish itself and have the connective tissue to the graphic novel. Then the second season, we stepped out a little bit. This third season, we’re really, really doing our own thing, and I think the show has found some really cool plots to follow and explore.
Hopefully, Vanya won’t be the one tortured to cause the end of the world… again.
