Episode 3 of The White Lotus was released on July 25. We progress further in satirical tale of The White Lotus’ employees and its high-paying guests — Mark deals with father’s history, Tanya goes off to scatter her mom’s ashes and more.
In the previous episode, Mark discovers that his father was secretly gay, and the real cause of his died was AIDS. Needless to say, Mark is not taking the news well and spends his third day at The White Lotus in a drunken daze. Son Quinn advises him to not attend his scuba diving instructions, but Mark dismisses it.
For Rachel, The White Lotus should’ve been a romantic bliss. Sadly, it is proving to be anything but. Upon meeting Mark by chance, she asks him how he and Nicole have kept the spark lighted up in their long marriage. Mark comments that while there is certainly mutual love amongst the two, the spark has long since disappeared.
There may still be hope for Rachel though, as Shane appears to understand his folly and tries to arrange a romantic dinner for the two, with Armond’s help. Shane is ready to put behind the ugly manager-guest tiff he’s been having with Armond.
Armond… not, so much. Despite knowing it isn’t a good idea, he orchestrates Shane and Rachel’s romantic (make-up) dinner on the same chartered boat that Tanya is off to scatter her mom’s ashes from. After this, he tries to deal with the stress of his job with using the drugs found in the Episode 2.
On the boat things don’t go as planned either — For one, accompanying someone who wants to scatter their loved one’s ashes does not make for romantic times, as Shane slowly realises. Tanya too, begins to understand that her toxic relationship with her late mother won’t be easy to let go. Tanya stops midway white scattering the ashes and decides to go back to the hotel.
And no, we haven’t forgotten about Quinn! After being tricked by his sister and her friend to give up his room, and then the kitchen, Quinn is left to make cosy on the beach. As the ocean would it, all of Quinn’s gadgets on the beach get soiled by the tide water.
This leaves him really frustrated for the day. But as night approaches, Quinn looks up to the sparkly night sky and finally discovers stars, which is a good remedy for his unhealthy screen-time habits.
While we learn more about The White Lotus’ characters, lights go out on Episode 3 with no major conflicts. Episode 4 is scheduled for August 1, available on HBO Max.
