Ethan may suffer a dangerous fate, come The White Lotus S2 finale. At first, he had to ferociously defend that he did not cheat on Harper. Then when Harper questions their whole relationship, he starts becoming a nervous wreck debating whether or not it was Harper who cheated on him with Cam.
The way the show goes about it, there is some room to speculate about Ethan’s irrational fear. Did Harper and Cameron really have sex?
It is unlikely that Harper had sex with Cam and cheated on Ethan. However, it is possible that she is pretending to have a secret relationship with Cam to mess with Ethan’s head. This may cause Ethan to harm or kill Cameron.
The Spillers’ relationship has gone from bad to downright nasty. In Episode 7, Harper points out that perhaps their relationship was flawed to begin with, and finding the condom wrapper simply was a breaking point that made her question if they were any good for each other.
Ethan clearly doesn’t want to let go of Harper, even if he isn’t attracted to her anymore. His fears could have something to do with the mimetic desire he spoke about in the previous episode—where you desire something that someone else of a higher status desires as well. These dynamics will not fare well for the couple.
Explained: Harper Did Not Sleep with Cam
In Episode 7, Ethan starts suspecting that Cam and Harper are secretly hooking up behind his back.
To make matters worse, he finds that his bedroom door is locked with a safety bolt, which Harper says was accidental. But Ethan becomes more suspicious when he realizes that the door connecting their room to Cam’s is open. Could Cam and Harper actually be sleeping together?
Although we see a visualization of Ethan’s fear, it’s unlikely that Harper slept with Cam or indulged in any of his deviances. For the longest time, Harper has detested Cameron and even put off some of his advances. Secondly, her moral standards are just too high to justify cheating with Cam.
But I do think that Harper is playing a mind game with Ethan. In the previous episodes, when Harper expressed how upset she was over the possibility of Ethan cheating, he told her to be chill about it and treat the suspicion as no big deal.
On the contrary, when Ethan is in Harper’s shoes, he seems to be turning into a puddle of anxiety over the possibility that Harper could’ve cheated—portraying how hypocritical his words were.
Will Ethan kill Cameron?
It’s possible that Harper is purposely insinuating a relationship with Cam just to mess with Ethan and prove her point. Sadly, this could be fatal if Ethan gets pushed too far and does something he’ll regret—like harm Cam somehow.
But could he end up killing Cameron? As seen in the finale’s promo, Ethan is definitely going to get into a physical fight with Cameron. However, he won’t kill him. The White Lotus loves to employ irony, which means that Ethan will accidentally kill someone else or even die himself.
