Netflix Is Expanding The Witcher With Season 3, Anime Sequel And More

Netflix’s TUDUM was surely packed with a lot of announcements, trailers, and first looks of various projects, but none of them came close to all the content The Witcher had in store for its fans.

It is not a surprise that The Witcher is one of Netflix’s most prized possessions, so sooner or later, the news of its renewal for a third season was expected.

With Season 2 just three months away, The Witcher official Twitter account revealed that the series has already been greenlit for Season 3.

But that’s not all, the tweet also announced a second anime feature film and a new ‘Kids and Family’ friendly series set in the Witcher universe.

Previously, as reported by Redanian Intelligence, a source had disclosed that writing for Season 3 has already begun.

The Witcher Season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet. Given that there aren’t any pandemic-related delays, it can be expected to drop sometime around late 2022 or early 2023.

Based on the series of fantasy novels and short stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the books have previously been adapted into a trilogy of video games by CD Projekt Red.

Fans of the video games were pleased to see a Kaer Morhen in Season 2 teaser similar to the one in the games.

Netflix has been exploring more and more ‘sub-groups’ of the franchise. The animated prequel The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf told the story of Geralt’s teacher, Vesemir. The tweet also mentioned a sequel to the anime film in the works.

The details about Season 3 are scarce. Season 2, on the other hand, got three new teasers along with a BTS video of The Witcher: Blood Origin miniseries.

The ‘Road to Season 2 Trailer’ clip introduces an older Vesemir in Kaer Morhen making his live-action debut after Nightmare of the Wolf and is a blend of clips from season 1 and glimpses of Season 2.
