Here’s How Nightmare Of The Wolf Connects To The Witcher S2 Storyline

Netflix’s animation The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf has all the fans riled up. And gladly so as the anime takes fans 50-60 years back to the happenings of The Witcher season 1.

Nightmare of the Wolf takes a deep dive into what it meant to be a Witcher before – to have a world full of Witchers, what led to and went down on the day of the fateful assault on Kaer Morhen.

So how does Nightmare of the Wolf connect to Season 2 of the live-action series?

The anime focuses on a young Vesemir (who we get a glimpse of as an elderly in live-action season 1 and his journey from a talented cocky Witcher to bearing the burden of bringing downfall to the entire Witchers’ community.

After the assault, he becomes the last Witcher to survive. Only to find a young Geralt hiding in the basement. How Geralt’s life has been shaped because of Vesemir is something that will be reflected in season 2 of the live-action.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich highlights how Geralt’s life will turn a whole circle in season 2. From having Vesemir as the father figure to being a father figure for Ciri, there will be many times Geralt will be looking back at his past for inspiration and courage.

We get to see the father figure that Vesemir is to Geralt in the anime film, and we get to see that Vesemir was willing to put his own life on the line in order to preserve this new generation of witchers.

When we see Geralt again in season 2, he is struggling with that same idea, which is that the Continent is changing once again, and suddenly Geralt is thrust into the role of the father figure. He has Ciri along for this journey, and he needs to start protecting her from the Continent as well.

The anime also introduced fans to new characters – Tetra and Lady Zerbst. What effects these will have in season 2’s storyline is yet to be revealed.

The Witcher S2’s trailer shows the monster-slaying Geralt of Rivia bring a confused and scared Ciri home at Kaer Morhen. She sees the ruins of what was once a warm place to many Witchers but now remains barren.

The animated series seeks to bridge the gap between this. Watching the monster-slaying Geralt take on a soft spot as a father figure and mentor for Ciri will be exciting.

The Witcher season 2 is slated to release on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
