Netflix recently dropped a thrilling trailer for The Witcher season 2. Packed with multiple storylines, new characters and very-dangerous monsters, the production team gave us a treasure trove of glimpses for The Witcher’s sequel.
The Witcher season 1 left fans with a painful tease of Geralt of Rivia, aka the Witcher, finally meeting (and embracing) Princess Ciri. It also gave fans the epic Battle of Sodden Hill, showing just a glimpse of Yennefer’s incredible powers.
But, season 2 dives deeper into the story taking each character’s storyline further and exploring them to the finest.
The trailer shows the start of Ciri’s training as Geralt takes her to Kaer Morhen, the safest place he knows, and she befriends Witchers Lambert and Coën. Under the guidance of Geralt, his mentor Vesemir and other Witchers, Ciri will learn to take charge of her untapped yet dangerous powers to protect people she loves – whether her country or Geralt.
It also shows Yennefer and Fringilla as prisoners of the Nilfgaardian army. As compared to the sassy, confident sorceress we saw in season 1, the sequel’s trailer shows her in distress possibly because she is unable to use her powers after the intense battle in season 1. What information the sorcerers have for being the target of multiple enemies, we don’t know yet.
Another significant story angle to look forward to is Yennefer and Ciri joining hands to possibly help Geralt as a brief scene sees them riding together. How Geralt’s two favorite people on Earth end up meeting together is a mystery.
Then there’s the whole herd (okay, all five) of the Witchers coming together to fight an unseen monster.
Throughout the trailer, all the new and old creatures, along with potentially more powerful antagonists, the show hints towards not one but multiple threats arising together. To battle them out one by one and keep loved ones safe, everyone will have to cross each other’s paths and fight together.
For Geralt who is “created to kill” but “destined to protect” and Ciri who is “destined to fight”, the sequel holds potential to become an instant hit, yet again.
