‘The Witcher’ Season 2: Everything You Need to Know

The Witcher season 2 is currently underway, along with many spinoff shows. Even though Netflix is yet to release an official date, the second installment is expected to come out some time in 2021.

Season 2 was greenlit even before the arrival of season 1 in 2019. With the show being a major hit, it seems the media giant’s foreboding has paid off.

But, with no news yet about season 2’s release, the wait for the show’s return is next to impossible to be predicted accurately, especially given the Coronavirus pandemic, which halted production of many media projects, including The Witcher

The show ceased filming in March of 2020 and resumed in August. However, it was halted again in November following reports of several positive Covid cases amongst the unit.

Furthermore, Henry Cavill suffered a hamstring injury on the set in December, as Deadline reported, requiring him to take a short break to recover. But an Instagram post from February has hinted at Cavill’s resumption to filming.

As for the cast of season 2, Lauren S Hissrich, the show’s boss, has confirmed that Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan, who play Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri, respectively, will be returning for the upcoming season. But it seems that the show will also be adding some new members to its ensemble cast.

Netflix has announced seven new members who will join season 2, as well as the roles they’d be playing. The lineup includes Adjoa Andoh as Nenneke, Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, Liz Carr as Fenn, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, Kevin Boyle as Ba’lian, Simon Callow as Codringher, and Chris Fulton as Rience.

Other than these, there are other famous additions to the cast, which includes Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) and Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) among many others.

Season 2 will take up from where the previous one left with the Witcher escorting Princess Ciri to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen after he becomes convinced of Yennefer’s death at the Battle of Soden. Hissrich, who recently sat down for an interview with Digital Spy, also gave the promise of a “more intense” season and that the storytelling will be “a little more focused and driven.”
