Gorr’s Daughter and Heimdall’s Son Introduced in Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder teased the introduction of a new generation with Love, Gorr’s resurrected daughter and Astrid, Heimdall’s son.

Thor: Love and Thunder is now running in theaters and focuses on the journey of Thor, the God of Thunder after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Love and Thunder marks Taika Waititi’s second collaboration with Chris Hemsworth, after Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

The film marks the return of Jane Foster or Mighty Thor, along with Valkyrie, now the King of Asgard. The main antagonist is Gorr, the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. The film also introduces new characters, such as Love and Astrid, who are teased as the next generation of the MCU.

Gorr

In the final moments of the film, Gorr’s daughter, Love is resurrected from death and is adopted by Thor. He promises Gorr to take care of Love after his death, and certainly keeps his promise. Love herself is Eternity’s child and thus has god-like attributes herself.

In New Asgard, Norway, we see Heimdall’s son, Astrid or Axl (as he prefers to call himself) training with Lady Sif. Back in the day, Lady Sif used to be one of Thor’s fighting partners. Astrid’s introduction is the hint that he is going to be Heimdall’s successor in the MCU.

Valkyrie is also seen training the children of Asgard to defend themselves. We also see Jane Foster’s statue being made to honor her sacrifice in saving Thor. The entire sequence is narrated by Korg, who assures the audience that the future of Asgard is safe in the hands of the next generation, led by Heimdall’s son, Axl.

One of the post-credits scenes in the film also features Heimdall himself, played by Idris Alba. We see Heimdall welcoming Jane Foster to Valhalla, the place where Asgardian warriors are resurrected after death.

Given that Moon Knight has already established that all religious gods and afterlives actually exist in the MCU, we can assume this is the case with Nordic Gods as well. Seems like we’re not done with Jane Foster yet.

About Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is a MCU movie and the fourth installation in the Thor series. It is directed by Ragnarok’s director, Taika Waititi, and will show Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Dr. Jane Foster.

The movie will be based on The Mighty Thor comics in which Thor Odinson loses the ability to lift Mjolnir, and Jane Foster takes on the role of Mighty Thor. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor teams up with The Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time, leaving Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. But Thor returns to team up with Korg, Valkyrie and Jane’s Mighty Thor to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) – before he takes out all the gods in existence.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson return for Watiti’s second go, while Russell Crowe and Natalie Portaman join Taika’s project for the first time. The movie is out on July 8, 2022.
