Gorr Is out for Vengeance in the new trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder

The first Thor: Love and Thunder trailer was already quite stunning. While it did get us all riled up for the next big Marvel project, it also left out some key details. So, with only over a month to go, the film has released a second and full-length trailer for fans to have something more to chew on.

The highlight of the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer is seeing Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher for the first time and introducing his vengeance arc, along with showing off more of Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor and her prowess.

(If you stick around till the end of the trailer, you’ll see a lot more of Thor, too.)

If I had to compare, I still like the first trailer a lot more. But this one was definitely ripe with funny quips and never-seen-before footage. You know the drill, let’s break it down!

Gorr and His God Complex

Despite not appearing in the first trailer, most of us already knew that Gorr was going to be the main villain of Thor 4. It’s also established that his whole beef with the gods (some parts of it rightly so) is that they’re narcissists, don’t look out for their “subjects” and often leave them to suffer.

Gorr

This is what Gorr experienced first-hand, which is why he wants to do away with gods of all kinds.

The new trailer shows us exactly what Bale’s villain looks like. Despite all the memes of him being a Voldemort lookalike, it was chilling to hear him say, “All gods will die.” I expect him to turn up his intimidating aura several notches higher in the movie.

PS: Did you peep Gorr’s Necrosword? This is the only weapon that can kill gods once and for all.

Is Jane over Thor?

You can see it from miles away that Thor is not over his first love. But not only is Jane playing it cool with their past relationship, but she has also taken quite a powerful approach with her new role as a superhero.

Jane

Natalie Portman definitely looks the part, and it seems like the Mighty Thor comes with some mighty upgrades despite wielding a hammer that was once torn apart. I am quite interested in seeing if we get a Mighty Thor origin story via flashbacks of Jane realizing what has happened to her and how she accepts this responsibility.

Plus, I already love her dynamics with Valkyrie and can totally see them becoming best friends.

Why is Valkyrie holding a lightning bolt?

If you thought Valkyrie’s role in the Thor 4 was secondary, think again. She is Thor’s trusted commander, and as such, we see her visiting Olympus with him to convince Zeus about Gorr’s threat.

Now, there is one thing to note in particular: We see Valkryie go head to head with Gorr himself. As impressive (and a bit scary) as that is, we see her using a lightning bolt as a weapon… the same lightning bolt that Zeus earlier summons.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions about what this could mean, but it is possible that by the end of the movie, Valkyrie may have some Olympic-level powers, thanks to Zeus.

Miscellaneous

Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder | Official Trailer
  • When the trailer begins with Korg narrating Thor’s story, the kids look like they’re from the planet Indigarr. This desert world first appeared in Jason Aaron’s Thor: God of Thunder #1.
  • The Living Tribunal make an appearance once again. The last time we saw them was recently in Doctor Strange 2, and before that, in Loki.
  • When Thor goes to visit Zeus, it seems like they’re in the Parliament of Pantheons. As you may have guessed, this is an intergovernmental organization of gods. I wonder if we’ll see any other prominent gods here, especially after meeting some of them in Moon Knight!
  • We also get more scenes with Drax and Nebula. While it’s unknown how much of the GOTG gang we’ll see in the movie, it’s always great to have them on the screen.

About Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is a MCU movie and the fourth installation in the Thor series. It is directed by Ragnarok’s director, Taika Waititi, and will show Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Dr. Jane Foster.

The movie will be based on The Mighty Thor comics in which Thor Odinson loses the ability to lift Mjolnir, and Jane Foster takes on the role of Mighty Thor. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor teams up with The Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time, leaving Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. But Thor returns to team up with Korg, Valkyrie and Jane’s Mighty Thor to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) – before he takes out all the gods in existence.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson return for Watiti’s second go, while Russell Crowe and Natalie Portaman join Taika’s project for the first time. The movie is out on July 8, 2022.
