Three Classic Batman Movies Return to Select Theaters for Batman Day

The DC hero Batman is definitely one of the most famously loved comic characters. A billionaire by day and a vigilante by night, Bruce Wayne/Batman has comics, toys, films, TV series, and so much more to celebrate him. In 2014, the third Saturday of September was marked as Batman Day, an annual celebration of the Caped Crusader’s decades of fame.

This year on Batman Day, the Caped Crusader will return to Cinemark theaters, in collaboration with DC, to celebrate the classic films that introduced the character to mainstream cinema. On September 17, 2022, three classic Batman films will be re-released in the US in Cinemark theaters for a one-time event.

The films that will be revived in cinemas across the country, in order of timing, are the animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Tim Burton’s live-action films Batman and Batman Returns.

Tim Burton’s Batman was released in 1989, bringing WB’s first Batman to live screens. The film, starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as The Joker, broke box office records and earned ten times its budget in profits.

The film’s grand success led WB to make a sequel with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton again, and Batman Returns hit theaters in 1992. The sequel didn’t make nearly as much as the first film, but it was still a success at the box office.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, the first animated film in the DC Animated Universe, was based on The Batman: The Animated Series and was released in 1993. This film marked the beginning of DC’s animated film genre and has gained cult status since its release and failure at the box office.

The screenings of these classic Batman films give the younger generation of DC fans a chance to see the hype and vision of Batman as it was in the ’90s. The older generation can enjoy the nostalgia this one-day event brings to their favorite vigilante.

So, will you visit Cinemark theaters on September 17 to view Batman in all his ’90s glory?
