Titans S4: Rachel’s White Raven Transformation & Powers Explained

Season 4 of titans wrapped up Part 1 with its mid-season finale this week, bringing about the rise of Brother Blood, Jinx’s death, and White Raven’s debut. If you’ve already watched the latest episode of the DC superhero show, you know we’re talking about our Rachel Roth getting new powers and a makeover to go with it.

When Rachel lost her powers in Season 4, fans were disappointed, but at the same time, they hoped that the show would have Rachel regain her abilities with a twist. While her transformation into White Raven was different from the comics, it definitely means a new path has opened for the supernatural space witch.

In the comics, White Raven was reborn after Rachel sacrificed herself to keep her father Trigon’s demonic rule away from Earth. The show simply restored her powers when Beast Boy destroyed the stone which had trapped them.

But how did her powers’ color scheme change from black to white tendrils, and does that mean she is more powerful now? We’re going to answer that for you!

Let’s tackle the first part of the above question. We know Mother Mayhem used Rachel’s powers to tap into Trigon’s magic, which she needed to transform Sebastian into Brother Blood. So when the stone containing Raven’s powers was purified of Trigon’s demonic magic, all that was left was pure and raw magic without any dark elements.

The other possible theory lies in Rachel’s acceptance of her powers as a gift and not a curse, which she did when jinx questions her about her feelings about losing her powers. A change in her point of view could have triggered a different reaction when her powers flew back into her, transforming her into White Raven.

But even with her new powers backed up with Starfire’s kinetic energy, Mother Mayhem stood her ground and fended off their combined attack. Does this mean White Raven is not as powerful as the Heretic?

In the comics, White Raven’s powers led her to feel emotions and even influence them, thus strengthening her abilities. But given that Raven was still adapting to her new powers while dealing with the fresh wave of grief that came with Jinx’s death, we feel she wasn’t up to testing the limits of her new powers.

So, for now, we’re not sure if White Raven is more powerful, but judging from how Raven is groomed to be this season’s key against the antagonists, we can be rest assured she’ll be a force worth reckoning with.

Titans Season 4’s introduction of White Raven is a bold move, and they definitely have something big planned for Rachel Roth in Part 2. We’ll just have to wait and see what goes down once the Titans return in 2023 after their hiatus.
