Mission Impossible 7 & 8 Might Not Say Goodbye to Tom Cruise

Mission Impossible 7 & 8 Might Not Say Goodbye to Tom Cruise

Mission Impossible 7 & 8, titled Dead reckoning Part One and Two, were supposedly the goodbye to Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt from the spy action film series.

But now Christopher McQuarrie, director for the upcoming installments of the film series, has teased that the two films may not be the end of Hunt’s adventures, and Tom Cruise may return for more!

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One and Two, slated for release in 2023 and 2024 respectively, would be Christopher McQuarrie’s third and fourth time working at the helm of the Mission Impossible films. The director’s previous success with 2015’s Rogue Nation and 2018’s Fallout, seeing the highest box office collections of the franchise, decided his return for doing justice to the franchise’s end.

A sneak peek for the film premiering on July 14, 2023, was shown in a few Top Gun: Maverick screenings this May, which also starred the Mission Impossible constant lead Tom Cruise. The two films will star Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, and Simon Pegg.

Apart from the trailer, no plot details have been made public, but now McQuarrie has given fans this new update! Speaking in the Light the Fuse Podcast (via Variety), Christopher McQuarrie speaks about the fickle-mindedness of the news industry, emphasizing that when some use “anonymous sources,” they are putting this news out “for a specific reason.”

When you read ‘anonymous sources’ or ‘sources close to the production say,’ that’s somebody putting it out there for a specific reason. That’s someone wanting others to think that for a specific reason, and you can never know for sure what those reasons are. You learn to ignore it and laugh at it. In today’s world, you wait 17 minutes, and another news cycle will sweep it away.

McQuarrie has not directly addressed whether the exit may be false or true, but this carefully worded message has given fans hope of seeing Tom Cruise return in the much-loved Mission Impossible franchise.
