Tom Holland Calls Spider-Man 3 A Movie Connecting Three Generations

We already knew that Doc Ock and Electro will be making an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But Tom Holland confirming the same is a great reassurance!

Talking to Total Films, Holland elaborates on what an epic journey the making of this film has gone through. Apart from characters who are already part of the MCU (Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Zendaya’s MJ), the movie is set to feature a large number of new, powerful villains, connecting “three generations” as Holland puts it.

In response to whether Holland felt the need to work harder and prove himself in the presence of so many big names, the actor gives everyone a pat on the back, implying that all of them brought their A-game to set each day.

It was interesting having those guys come in because they have a certain ownership over Spider-Man in their own way, and… I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys. To see Alfred come in, and have to adapt and change to the way that the films are made, but also change director, and also [the fact that] I’m now Spider-Man. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era.

He’s careful to only mention Molina (Doc Ock) and Foxx (Electro) by name, knowing that any slip-up this close to the premiere could be detrimental.

However at this point, many are aware that Sandman and Green Goblin are also confirmed with a possibility of the Lizard and Mysterio.

What is interesting is that Holland points to these villains adapting to the current mold of the MCU. They’ve had their respective origin stories told in previous Spider-Man iterations. But it is left to see how No Way Home will deal with this — Will they have a new persona and backstory altogether?

Given that movie has to deal with more important plots (carrying forward the multiverse and all of that), No Way Home may not go in-depth about each of its famed villains.

Still, fans may hold Holland to his three generational remark. After all, what is more apt than having all the three Spider-Mans (Spider-Men?!) on screen repping their respective era.

Holland continues to be distraught at the sentiment, clarifying in the interview that “People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back. But people are going to have to believe me at some point.”

Sorry Tom, but we will need receipts. Perhaps, there is only one way of knowing — When we watch Spider-Man: No Way Home in cinemas on December 17.

(Or maybe when Marvel releases one last trailer?)
