Top Gun: Maverick’s performance in Japan surpasses Cruise’s previous record

Top Gun: Maverick is still flying high in Japan a year after its release. The sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun brings back Cruise as Captain Maverick, who mentors a new generation of Top Gun pilots for a dangerous mission.

The film has been a huge hit, smashing box office records and becoming the second highest grossing movie of 2022, earning $1.49 billion worldwide.

According to Deadline, Top Gun: Maverick has achieved another milestone in Japan one year after its premiere. The film is still showing in Japanese theaters and has become the country’s most successful Tom Cruise film, making $101.5 million in its first year of release.

Top Gun: Maverick’s performance in Japan surpassed Cruise’s previous record for 2003’s The Last Samurai. The film’s popularity in Japan and worldwide could pave the way for a possible Top Gun 3.

Top Gun: Maverick soared to new heights, becoming the most successful movie ever for Paramount in Japan. The film has been a smash hit worldwide, especially in the US, where it ranks as the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time with a whopping $718.7 million.

Top Gun: Maverick is a true box office titan that has won over critics and audiences alike.

The film delivers a fresh and exciting story that stays true to the spirit of the original. It explores the character of Cruise’s Maverick, his bond with Rooster (Miles Teller), and his struggle to overcome the guilt of losing Goose in the first movie.

Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel that makes total sense in the franchise (a rarity!), and its phenomenal box-office performance shows how much people love seeing Cruise back as Maverick.

Top Gun: Maverick’s stellar box office results could pave the way for Top Gun 3. Although there is no official word on a sequel, Paramount would be foolish to let Cruise hang up his Maverick jacket for good.

With Top Gun: Maverick breaking records left, right, and center, it looks like Paramount has found a gold mine in the Top Gun franchise.
