Universal Studios Power Outage: 11 People Stuck on Transformers Ride

On April 7, eleven people were stuck for nearly three hours on a Transformers ride at the Universal Studios Hollywood. An extreme overload on electricity grids throughout Los Angeles might have been the cause behind it as the temperatures soared to 96 degrees, reported Deadline.

Universal Studios Hollywood is paradise on Earth for moviegoers. From Jurassic Park-themed roller coasters to Harry Potter and even G.I. Joe—the amusement park is one of the most famous sites in LA.

However, visitors on the Transformers ride would have never guessed what would come for them—being trapped on a rollercoaster ride for two and a half hours.

According to a fire department official’s statement, they received a distress call at around 3.45 pm to help rescue people stuck on the inoperable rides.

It took nearly two hours to rescue the visitors, and they were reported to have been rescued around 6 pm. No casualties or injuries were reported.

According to other local reports such as ABC7, a Harry Potter ride was affected, too. However, details about the ride, such as the number of people stuck or which ride, remain confusing.

A contrasting report by local newspaper KTLA75 reports that the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride had 11 people trapped on them while major news sites said it was the Transformers 3D ride.

The cause of the power loss was reportedly associated with the heavy load on the electricity grid.

As per NWS Los Angeles, the temperature around Universal hit 96 degrees on April 7. Meanwhile, coastal area Long Beach’s temperature hit 100 degrees while LAX reported 95 degrees. The massive heat wave was bound to have everyone switching on their ACs and fans, which might have led to an electricity overload.

As per a Universal Studios Hollywood official,

“As a result of a power interruption from So Cal Edison, we experienced a brief power dip which resulted in exiting guests from some attractions. Power has been fully restored and we’re working to get a few remaining attractions back online. The theme park remains open.”
