The fictional The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will be imitating real life soon. As per the newest still image released, Elliot Page’s character, Vanya Hargreeves, will come out as transgender in the upcoming season.
On March 30, Page posted a still from Umbrella Academy Season 3 on his Twitter account. The Oscar-nominated actor said, “Meet Viktor Hargreeves” with a purple umbrella in the caption.
Netflix quote-retweeted the photo by welcoming Viktor to the family with a red heart.
Page came out as a transgender in December 2020, announcing his pronouns as he/they. The actor has been one of the protagonists in The Umbrella Academy, so while his transition never affected his role, insider reports suggested that Netflix was changing his metadata throughout their site to reflect the change.
However, there were no reports of the character going through a change.
Vanya Hargreeves is the most powerful of the lot, and changing her into Viktor has drawn majorly positive but some concerning responses.
Although the show is fictional and has a superhero, never-logical situations occurring, some fans believe the creators need to mention or hint at Vanya’s transitioning period.
With the gender change, the storyline for The Umbrella Academy Season 3 remains a bit unpredictable.
The family will go against The Sparrow Academy in the upcoming season, an altered timeline version of super-powered orphans their dad took in instead of them.
The OG Umbrella family successfully traveled back to 1963 to stop the apocalypse, but they ultimately messed up their future by saving the world.
When they return to their timeline, they see that not everything remains the same as they left it—and finally reel in the consequences of time travel.
Meanwhile, the season will likely be more exciting than the previous ones because of its don’t-mess-with-time-travel plot that can open numerous exciting gateways.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will premiere on June 22 exclusively on Netflix.
