BLACKPINK’s Rosé Gets Verbally Abused At An NBA Game

K-pop supergroup BLACKPINK has been out and about traveling the world, busy with their solo adventures. On November 10, BLACKPINK member Rosé attended the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks vs. New York Nicks in New York.

As expected with BLACKPINK, Rosé went viral soon enough. But the celebrations turned bitter as a fan captured a moment where a man attacked Rosé with a racial slur. The fan posted the video on TikTok, and it soon went viral, garnering 370.9k views.

The clip shows fans eagerly waiting for Rosé, at first not quite believing if the BLACKPINK member really did attend the game. As soon as Rosé stepped out, amongst the cries of fans, a man can be heard saying, “Who is that? Who is that?”. While that seems harmless, he proceeded by asking, “Ling ling?”

‘Ling ling’ is a racial slur used against Asians. It stereotypes them into Chinese people, as it imitates (read: mocks) the Chinese language. Ignorant people with limited world knowledge often use the slur to mock East Asians.

The blatant discrimination against a member of one of the top K-pop girl groups has fanned fans’ anger. Some are also taking it in stride, flexing Rosé being, well, Rosé.

As the Hallyu wave spreads wider each day, fans do their utmost best to keep artists away from negative news too. BLINKs (BLACKPINK’s fandom) have together suppressed the news from spreading on Twitter.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Rosé were recently spotted at Paris Hilton’s post-wedding bash. Lisa was recently seen in DJ Snake’s Instagram story, fuelling speculation for a collab and Jisoo has been busy promoting her debut K-drama, Snowdrop.
