The Batman BTS Images Show Matt Reeves & Robert Pattinson Hard at Work

Warner Bros. has released new behind the scenes images from DC’s The Batman and it shows Matt Reeves directing Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit on set.

As Reeves’ take on the Caped Crusader inches further to its much-delayed, much-awaited March release, the pictures offer a glimpse at the sets that are just as dark as the film’s tone itself.

The first image looks like it’s the room where the Riddler had placed his “no more lies” victim seen in the first trailer. Whereas the second picture looks like its set in a police station with officers standing at the back.

Besides these on-set images, new stills from the film were also uploaded. These included the Riddler in full costume, Batman and Catwoman on a rooftop, Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin in a tuxedo, Bruce Wayne in a suit, and James Gordon with Batman.

Some fans seemed displeased with the Riddler’s costume reveal. However, Reeves has mentioned at times that he wanted to make all the characters raw and seem like they’re still in their “origin” phase.

The Riddler’s costume bears strong resemblance to the Zodiac Killer. Reeves has been open about the influences various pop culture elements have had on the film. The director had previously said that he had Kurt Cobain in mind while drawing inspiration for his version of Bruce Wayne.

While talking about the Riddler during DC’s 2020 FanDome, Reeves said,

You know we have a Paul Dano [who] plays a version of the Riddler that no one has ever seen before and it’s really exciting. He’s such an incredibly creative actor and so what he is doing I think is going to blow people’s minds… and the Riddler is just emerging for the first time, so that’s all incredibly exciting.

With HBO Max’s two spinoffs about the Gotham Police Department and Penguin, Reeves seems ambitious to build a DCEU universe that goes beyond a trilogy. And if this plan requires the Riddler’s costume to not be as comic-accurate, then so be it!

Based on comics like Year One and The Long Halloween, The Batman has been hyped up by fans for a long time so naturally, there are a lot of expectations attached to the film. Some even have hopes of it surpassing Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

Either ways, prepare to be amazed or baffled when The Batman arrives in theaters on March 4.
